Thank you so much! I couldn't figure out the basting method and you're the first person to say I pull the bobbin thread ONLY! Works a dream, thank you for making it super easy xx

Glad to help, and if you want to make it even easier, you can slightly loosen the tension on your bobbin. Have fun gathering!

This was the easiest and most straightforward tutorial on this, thank you! I normally much prefer to read rather than watch, but this video was perfect :)

This is a great tutorial. I will definitely have to try some of these out, especially the serger method. Thanks for sharing, Elizabeth.

Glad to share Crystal! The serger is a fun one--it's always nice to have different ways to use a serger!

Going to try dental floss. Use 2 row, long stitch method typically. TY for this great video!❤

Hey Nanci! I just made a dress for my little lady with the long stitches, and I was kicking myself for not pulling out the dental floss (face palm!). It just makes the nicest, most even gathers.

Someone just gifted me with several spools of elastic thread. Now I know what to do with it. Great tutorial.

On both my sergers I can gather completely with one run through. No hand pulling threads afterwards as in this video. So fast and easy.

Hi Elizabeth!! Wonderful vlog .. I’ve tried most but will have to try elastic one.. I don’t have a serger so can’t try it.... 💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵

That is the downside to the serger one. You'll love the elastic!

Thank you, I love rushing but hate the pulling threads method. Any tips on how to keep the stretch in the gathers? Like the seam is gathered AND stretchy at the same time, even after you sew it onto another seam.

I try and keep the pulling threads method in small areas like for shoulders, but I'm with you on the long bits--it's too fiddly when there's other options! Using the clear elastic is your best bet for keeping some stretch in the gathers after the fact. The elastic is in fact what holds the gathers in ruched sides unless you're using a drawstring.

How do I keep the floss from moving?
@ElizabethMadeThisSEW

You'll need to hold onto it on the end as you're sewing. Once you anchor it on one end, you should just need to hold the end in front of the needle. If you hold it taut, it won't move too much on you.

I’m interested in trying the serger method, can’t believe I waited so long to learn to use one! Also the gathering with elastic thread. Great video, thanks for sharing the different methods! Oh that Tracy Reese dress is such a knockout!:)

It's a fun one, but definitely takes some careful work. The elastic thread is magic! I love the feel of it. Isn't Vogue 1314 one of your favorites too?
