Our GE dryer was bought in December 2015. No need to remove the console cover. Just skip to the next step and remove the two screws at the top of the door frame. Then lift the top panel and remove the two screws that are on the very top (unlike this demo, the screws are sitting right on top, and not inside.) Remove the front panel by swiveling it to the left. There is an additional wire harness on top that can be disconnected, but the door latch and light switch wiring will still be attached, as shown in the video. There is no need to remove the drum. You can easily remove the igniter by removing the screw on the right side of the burner assembly. Reverse the procedure to reassemble after the new igniter has been installed. Just don't touch the igniter coil and be careful installing it.

thanks for posting I have the exact same dryer and they quoted me almost or about 200 bucks to fix the drum support plastic on the front panel and the igniter. I changed the thermo coupler on my water heater I think I can do this too for way less than 200 bucks ....

Holy smokes man, that belt over the idler pulley with the drum in place is pure evil.. lol I just did it and barely, just barely barely got it done...

Corrosion on the ignition (white wires on heating element)connection i believe was my problem. All connectors on my dryer are copper with the exception of the heating element. Sand, clean, done.

It would be nice if you explained how to check if the igniter I have is bad.

Check it with a multimeter. Around 60 to 400 ohms. If it's burned out, you'll get zero ohms. Check it before you go through the trouble of removing it.

would a bad igniter cause the circuit breaker to trip? Im trying to figure out whats wrong without buying all different parts. I turned the machine on after removing the drum and i see the igniter glow orange then go off then come back on again so im thinking igniter is a possibility but the motor might be making a different noise as well.

Clean the connections on the white wires of the heating element. Those are steel and corrode
