Hey bestie! I recently got 1 month ahead on my bills in my separate bill account. It is such a relief just knowing that i don't have to worry if I can pay everything that is due before the next check. I also have a 1500 starter emergency fund that i will now start building to 3 months then 6 since as of last night I'm debt free! 🎉🎉🎉 Instead of figuring expenses I am just saving my monthly income. 🏀

Hey bestie, I am also in Southern California. The cost of living can be a sticker shock. My monthly expenses are around 5500. My bare bones expenses are around 4500. I had 30k in my stockpile but I actually had to live off of it for a few months. Now I have about half of that but I want to get it back up. It makes me feel very secure as a single woman to have a backup.

I was dividing my electric bill by 12 and using that figure for my 1 month ahead, but I think your idea of taking the highest amount from the last 12 months and rounding up is very smart! 🏀

I started cash stuffing over a year ago and it has saved me. I am a low income cash stuffer but I try to put money away into sinking funds when I can. I managed to save enough last year to get a month ahead, and it is the best thing I have ever done for my finances. This year I have saved so my variable spending is month ahead. Thanks for sharing.

I just found myself to be in debt for C$5000 due to a family emergency (I needed to buy plane tickets to Asia so I can see my mom who is sick). I now need to re-do my whole budget. I was never in debt before except for mortgage and car payments so this is new. Hoping to get 1 month ahead in bills and have C$1000 chequing acct cushion. And continue to contribute to our Emergency Fund, we are saving the total of our combined monthly income x3.

Started my first two sinking funds my daughter starts high school this year & Cheerleading is $1,600 - 2,200 each season, formal gowns especially knowing she wants to go big Senior year. Then a fund for her first car next year. My husband and I told her we will match $2 to each dollar she saves. Excited to see if this works before we do it for the other two girls

It definitely should work. Sinking funds are a proven method that works wonders. I’d highly recommend it. Graduation, college app fees, book fees. Senior year fees. Senior pictures. Prom. Activities. It’s so much 😩

I always recommend for people to get 1 month ahead for budgeting, if possible. The money you earn in March is for April bills, etc. It makes it easier because you know what you have to spend for the month instead of working by paycheck. Currently, I am working on saving up 12 months of paychecks plus a little extra as my emergency fund. Hopefully I am done with this goal sometime in the next 10 years!

Hi! I had 3 months expenses saved, lost my job and found that 3 months wasn’t enough because one of the jobs I applied to (which ended up hiring me) had a very long drawn out interview process. So I would recommend that 3 months is the absolute minimum. Six months is better :)

Good on exercise 🙏 I think the only thing I would remind is property taxes … I am blessed paid off mortgage but home owners insurance and property taxes keep going up !!! Most of my utilities I pay a year in advance. For example: my trash bill is paid for the year. My next payment is due Oct 1 for 2025. Same with my internet and water bill. It's a huge relief to eliminate those monthly expenses. I'm working on getting a credit on my electric as well, but being in an all electric house it's hard!!!

Hey bestie! Great explanation and I have done my month ahead calculations the same way. My emergency fund is based off my income and my expenses will go to my bills account. I have a few backups to my emergency fund (checking account buffer (1 month of income), bill account buffer (2x - 3x my monthly expenses), rainy day fund, life happens fund, house cash (for emergencies $250 or less), and build a buffer (backup to my bill account buffer, $500 goal amount). I am saving one month at a time until I have 2 years worth of income in my emergency fund and 2 years worth of expenses in my bills account. 🏀

what´s the difference betweeen a rainy day fund and life happens fund?

The rainy day fund is for smaller emergencies. My goal amount for that fund is $2500. The life happens fund is for things like an unexpected appliance repair or car insurance deductible. Hope that helps. My emergency fund is solely for job loss or major illness that would prevent me from working.

So I calculated my bills for the month I’m just still struggling on how to get a month ahead because I don’t have much extra after I pay the bills biweekly
