I also think that having too much magnification is counter-productive as the shooting process become infinitely more challenging. I usually don't go to full 100% magnification, unless necessary.

The Laowa macro lens is great I am sure, and as you said, it is not a budget set up!

We need a reference, and in this case 35mm format becomes the reference. Same as 25mm lens, while true focal length is 25mm, we say it is equivalent to 50mm in 35mm format, so there is consistency when we measure/compare reach and framing. Similarly with magnification, same 100% magnification, but with 2x crop, you get twice more magnification in 35mm format. Unless of course, you don't care about a reference, then you talk about compact cameras having 3mm-24mm lens which in no way anyone would know what kind of width or length they represent, unless someone clearly stated (equals to 28mm to 200mm zoom)

@@robinwong I think you are wrong here. Let’s say first that the minimum focus distance depends on the distance between the lens and the sensor, and it’s the same regardless of the sensor size. At the closest distance, with a m43 you will get a smaller portion of the object on the frame due to the 2x crop, but the magnification will still be the same as on a full frame sensor. On the full frame you will get a bigger part of the object on the frame, but just because the sensor is bigger, not because there is less magnification. We might be fooled about thinking how many pixels a part of the object will end up covering, but we have to ignore that, as this is related to the sensor pixel count and not the magnification

Not when you take 35mm as a reference, so 17mm vs 35mm, that is double the magnification. Similarly, we talk about Olympus 25mm lens, while 25mm is the true focal length, but we also admit that it is equivalent to 50mm in 35mm format. Simple as that, so we have a common, standardized photography language.

The 45mm has a pretty poor magnification factor at its closest focusing distance, 0.11x. I would try a lens with a bigger magnification factor.

You won't be able to find it here. And if you do, Pentax used items are incredibly expensive.
