Great video. Using the 4x3 aspect makes more sense as you can cut for social media reels from the centre of the frame (9x16). Using the full height has many benefits including also being able to frame the 16x9 from more of the top and bottom of the frame.

0:50 the GH5 / GH5 II sensors are 4:3 (not 3:2), so the 3:2 ratio is the same image as 4:3 cropping the top and bottom. Interesting video tho!

I'm going to shoot 5.2k with my Sirui 35mm anamorphic lens on my G9! Thank sir! great video! And the 5.2k looks much cleaner in low light.

Hi! Nice content. Very informative. And what about filesizes and bitrates of these two options. I would use it for cropping, however diverence in resolution is moderate only and I would like to know, if it is worth the extra filesize.

Hi, thanks for watching! File sizes aren't that much bigger than 4K modes. It is shot at 200mbps, so it's only around %33 larger than the 10bit 4K modes.

i followed the steps and each time i press the record button it says "post focuse is on" any idea how i can disable that to record in "6K"?

Nice. I think the 4:3 ratio also uses the full width of the sensor though.

Thank you! In 4:3 the resolution is 4992x3744 (roughly, 18.69mpx), while the 3:2 is 5184x3456(roughly 17.9 mpx). The full resolution of the sensor (which is a 4:3 sensor) is 5184x3888 (20.1 mpx). So, the 3:2 uses the whole width resolution of the sensor, while the 4:3 has more height resolution, and just a tad tiny bit more overall resolution, too.

@@FabledFew worth mentioning that the bitrate is ~200mbps h265 (which is ~400mbps h264), and less pixels (data) are wasted on height if using 3:2

Cool. Panasonic should release a new update to have 5.2k 420 10 bit internal recording mode. I know their s1 upcoming firmware update will have the internal 6k 420 10 bit. So I think it is something they can definately do. But I guess the GH5 is old now they would not give it further update.

I agree. I was really hoping for some sort of external RAW update for the GH5, but they just released that for the BGH1, and not even the GH5S, which tells me they are done updating the GH series for now.

isn't there significant less noise in 6K on high ISO or does it just seem that way cause the image is slightly darker?

To my eyes, they had an identical amount of noise, which I think is because the 4K is supersampled from the entirety of the sensor. I used the same exact settings for both 4k and 6k shots, however the camera exposes the 6k slightly darker, and hue-wise, slightly greener.

Great video. I have a G9 and am aching to get a Sirui anamorphic lens and shoot in s/s 6k mode. It looks like desqueezed footage would be 16:9 in 4x3 and 2:1 in 3x2.

You don’t need to do that, just put the lens on and shoot in regular 4K mode.

Can you please check out once again your video at 3:40 to 4:00, and pay attention to that grass on the right side, and say to me, that you dont see any noise difference o0 Im watching it on some Dell 4k m onitor and also your video at "4k"res I can see like 50% less noise on 5.2k side at that grass part in the back..

I had to go back and look at the original files to see better, but to my eyes, it seems like Panasonic is applying baked-in noise reduction in the 5.2K files, even though it is shot in VLOG and that PP supposedly has no NR built-in. You can see this if you look closely at the windows of the yellow buildings.

What do you mean that this method could use for interviewing? There is no audio for 6K photo mode.

@@FabledFew Seems that Panasonic engineers prior to release had been working on a proper 6k mode considering what the sensor can do and instead decided to scale the video options back to 4k but kept the 6k, using it as a camera mode. It apparently has sound as what you've stated and is very usable for cropping.
