I'm predicted a grade 9: I understand some of what you've said. I've used mind maps loads for my revision: a mind map for timbers, a mind map for metals, a mind map for manufactured board etc. My teachers taught the content well through booklets and practice question starters. I feel like the more you can apply your knowledge, the better you remember it: I do woodwork at home: this helped me embed properties of timbers in long term memory as well as helping with coursework. As you say, much of the exam is applying a general understanding with what you have been taught. Good video, I'm definitely going to implement some of your tips in my coursework. Thank you very much!

I'm predicted a 9, but only in year 9. I wish to be an architect, and really enjoy DT, but most of what we do is creative, with around 25 percent of lessons being theory. I feel that the DT curriculum especially is flawed, as theory clearly plays a major part in design. Very useful video, excellent presentation, good job.

It sucks how much teachers can ruin subjects, but I feel like its even worse with DT because of the almost nonexistent resources and how much of a balance you need between theory and nea

I don't think it's just you. It was the first subject I had my heart set on. Although the coursework was tiring near end it was hands down the best gcse I've taken. I'm going to finish the course tommorow and it's very sad that my school don't offer it an A level for it.

After Geog Paper 3/Physics Paper 2 on 14th June which is a Friday there’s DT on Tuesday 18th June so do you think I could cram it all in that time because I have to revise for everything else and we weren’t taught much cos we worked on the NEA (at least I got 91/100 in that :D)

due to teachers just up and leaving our school, we didnt have a teacher at the time of the year we were meant to be doing theory so all of my mocks so far have been complete guesswork as i am terribleee at home learning. Nice to hear a lot of people have not enjoyed theory. I do aqa but i feel the principles of it are the same. My NEA wasn't terrible for me, just wayy too much work and eventually gave up trying to finish >_< still did pretty well on it though. Thanks for the video, was really helpful with revision for someone really unmotivated. Wish me luck for the exam tmrw :D

With the coursework I somewhat disagree in terms of presentation because yes after a certain point it doesn't change anything (you could have someone with an exceptional presentation and someone with an ok one and their grades would be the same).However, if your slides lack a basic structure and look unpresentable the examiner will probably subconsciously mark you down and in some cases if it's that unclear then they won't even know where to direct their attention.

oh myy, coursework was so bad, i gained 20 marks on the last day before submitting 😭 luckily theory is quite easy, advance info looks simple enough for our timbers component which is the bulk of our marks, hopefully i dont make stupid mistakes to step down from a 9!

We started our coursework in yr11 and then the teacher only made us do three idea pages, 2 development pages and then an evaluation. We were told two days before it was now getting moderated or something so I then had to just go to google and bullshit my way through anything I could do at home. And we haven’t been taught a dingle piece of theory . Yay

Ikr, I've met nobody who likes DT and I'm certainly a hater too. In terms of what books I do, Macbeth, An Inspector Calls and Sign of the Four was taken out for us, but we still do Power and Conflict Poetry. @@NoumanSami I do AQA DT and I really enjoy it. We learn more than just about timbers and woods etc, I've never heard of someone only studying 1 topic in any subject, although it is different for you as you do Edexcel

i get 9s in the theory as I find exams pretty easy, but my coursework was shit. It wasn't my fault though. Basically, my teacher (quite old) started getting health problems last year and led us to not complete the criteria for the NEA correctly, despite me completing all the tasks he gave and more to ensure I would get a good grade. I checked over it multiple times, was sure I would get at least a 7. He got too unwell and retired earlier this year, leaving other tech teachers to mark our work. My NEA grade came back as a 4. I was very unhappy with this, but my class did awfully aswell, even some of the higher level students getting 2s or 3s. Now I need to get an 8 or 9 on my exam or I might not pass.

Hey, thanks for your advice the other week :) same I don’t think anyone in my school likes it either Literally takes up all your time as well. I’ve got to do abt 40 A3 pages of coursework for my NEA and I also do edexcel timbers. I don’t know if this is the same in all schools. How do you make your pictures with the properties of timbers etc cuz that’s honestly an amazing idea. I also found helpful this guy called “yi makes it easy” on yt and he summaries and reads out what’s in the book which helps me but dunno if that helps at all :) thanks for ur vids!

I have a question, how were you when you first started doing past papers to when you had done a lot of them? Did you get some questions wrong at the start and improve? Only asking because I have exams soon and I have not been doing well on the past papers

Yeah I realised, especially with sciences, that I kept on getting similar questions wrong and so I just made Flashcards out of each of those questions so I knew the mark scheme for them too. Now when I do past papers, I’m definitely performing much better and, now that my past papers tally is developing, I’m seeing progress with my colours and they’re getting greener and greener (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, check my revision timetable video) But yeah, good luck with your exams soon!

So exams are in mid May, I’d say that start doing only past papers from May but before that do practise questions in April and go over content that you’ve still forgotten

Yeah don’t choose DT: I’ve stayed up really late the past couple weeks finishing off my coursework and luckily, unlike my friends, I didn’t have to pull all nighters, my advice is to not take DT, the making is fun but is way too short compared to everything else 🤮

The school-provided textbook is soooo bad. For me and maybe for other people, the Pearson Edexcel textbook is so much better because it actually doesnt have all the random useless bs thats on the default one. For coursework, the amount of time that takes and the stupidly limited preexisting resources just makes it a great way to obtain depression for the day

Hey, I've been following your channel for some time now, cool vids. Got my dt written on monday, 2 hours though so we get enough time, its half of the GCSE. I do aqa so although theory might not be as hard, we get tested on the whole syllabus. The other half, NEA is such a pain, took a year off my life. Grade boundaries are stupidly high as well. Thing is, with theory, my teacher says I misunderstand the questions. Could you help me out in any way? My targets are 8s/9s and if I get 75/100 or above I'll bag an 8 overall

honestly, i'm not the person to go to for the theory exam, it made no sense when I sat my own and I half-guessed most of my answers. Also I don't do AQA so I'm unsure of how the questions are structured either tbh but i guess i recommend checking out past papers and just looking for common patterns and learning them.

omg i just started year 11 and the NEA literally makes my mind go blank I have zero ideas and literally just write meaningless sentences to fill in the space + my teacher is rubbish. I really regret taking it but oh well 🫠
