Happy someone finally made a video about the Karlby Island desktop showing just how big and spacious it is. I've been planning (once I have the space) on changing my LINNMON desktop which I currently have on my sit-stand desk frame to the KARLBY Island desktop for the added depth to keep my 27’’ monitor at a good distance but also to have room to work without always having to remove my keyboard, mouse, and mouse mat. This desktop has enough depth to place it against a wall and still provide enough leg room to extend my legs and rest them on a leg rest underneath. The added width will also be great.

I went with an 80x32in solid core wood door and it has been perfect. Put it on top of an UpLift standing desk motor.

Excellent video, mate! New subscriber. A door desk is a great option for a budget desk setup. I built one for my first home (actually it was a little studio condo). The door knob hole is perfect for cable management. I used a pair of solid metal sawhorses on each end. It was a cool setup until I noticed the sag that developed over a few months. Lesson learned: add a post or some other kind of support in the middle of the desk. I now use an Ikea Galant desk. IMO, the Galant was the best computer desk ever. You could put together exactly the kind of desk that best suited your needs. I still can't understand why it was discontinued. Mine is 15 years old. Definitely has some battle scars, but the old man works great and still looks pretty good.

Omg thank you for this video. Ive spent weeks trying to find a desk for my setup and one of my biggest pet peeves was the width for the desk. I like to have a lot of room myself for my gaming setup. This idea is actually genius. Great content! You earned yourself a new subscriber.

I've been wanting to get the butcher block top but I haven't really been interested in the drawers cuz I really just don't need them. Had no idea I could just buy legs off of amazon, which is cool because now I can look for something kinda stylish for the side legs, and pick out something kinda drab/boring for a support leg in the rear of the desk. I wasn't too keen on just the metal pole you can get, doesn't quite complete the look imo. I strongly thank you for this idea, been trying to piece together a dream desk for quite some time :)

Can you show a picture of the front & back side of your desk? Reason I asking is, wouldn't this be unbalanced as the Alex drawers are placed on the front side there is no support on the back side unless you have legs on it. Or is it that the island top is heavy enough that there is no need to support the back side? I'm looking to do a 105" long desk for 2 gamer setup as my movie room hasn't been used for 4 years now time to move the leather couch & make the room a gamers room. We have 3 gamers in our house.

I’m doing the Alex right now and thinking of moving to a 30 inch deep top but the Alex is clearly less than that. How did you deal with the overhang on your island top? Centering the Alex means you lose draw space but pulling it forward means you’ll need a leg in the back and kills the aesthetic of the desk.
