it was so well explained, im an undergraduate degree with a thesis about Cyberpsychology. This video has the comprehensive explanation on what HCI would be. So i guess i need to start to learn about computers now

Well, firstly, you have inspired me and reminded me of what it means to be an HCI researcher. And how competent I need to become to call myself a computer scientist. Even though I have two research papers published in 2020 and because of that feeble accomplishment I kind of made myself believe that I had achieved a lot and done something superior which in reality was far from the truth. Because of that, I had published no research paper in 2021. And that is only because of my procrastination and lack of motivation and a bit of pride. I indeed acknowledge those publications but still, I think I failed to utilize that I needed to keep going as a researcher to understand the world. And compared to the vast ocean pool of knowledge out there I will always know nothing. And I will always be feeble and there is nothing to have pride for. It's just always a process of hard work and collaboration. Always a cycle of a scientific. process. I had to keep reading, keep up to date with the latest scientific discovery and keep exploring and learning all the branches of computer science. So, that's what my resolution is. Not only for this year. For the days to come. I always have to try to be better. But, apart from the personal discovery myself, I wanted to point out about the video, that is even though the video provides an amazing insight into the niche of HCI research, it certainly has an inconsistent frame rate. And it doesn't feel smooth. It feels like it's getting cropped. Well, I don't know why this is happening, cause I have watched the video on 4 different devices (2 laptops, an iPad, and an Android phone) with different browsers and it's always the same. I tried to figure out the frame rate of the video by downloading the video with no success, but I think maybe downloading from KZfaq with Internet Download manager isn't gonna cut it. I will investigate this more and get back to you again, for now, I will put this aside after the next few sentences. While I have gone through other videos such as the Design Thinking video of yours where this kind of feels like there are lots of cuts but maybe it's not. I feel the transition between these cuts can be and should be a little smoother just like your in between transitions of text and video. And I feel that although your words convey the structural purpose of the video and the philosophy with flying colors, the experience could be even more immersive other than the deep and groovy voice that it already makes. Another tiny bit is that clicking on your name from the link -"www.designdisciplin.com/hci-profession/" takes me to a 404 error page. I think you should fix that. Nonetheless, thanks a ton Dr. Mehmet Aydın Baytaş. And keep inspiring as well as informing about the truth and focus of HCI and design research.

Thank you for your crystal clear explanation of the field. I am just finishing my master's in computing and writing my thesis in human ai collaboration in the cockpit of airline aircrafts. As a pilot myself i am looking to move into hci research driven by the human factors engagement with automation. Hope to be able to cope on this even i am at my 50s

Thanks! You’re one of the few making such insightful videos about HCI! If I may I would like to ask your comment on choosing HCI as a master for a bachelor engineer. I focus on electrical parts and projects manage projects. I’ve been fascinated by human behavior and philosophy for the past year but only to the level of learn about it, not applying. Now, I’m interested in knowing if you know of HCI workers with a background like mine. How they perform and what kind of work they do. It might be a big question but I hope to hear from you :) gonna watch more of your videos now

I'm a psychologist and recently decided to expand my work and research field. I'm studying in the first semester of Neuroscience one of the specialization is HCI related to neuroscience, cognition, perception, and other areas. I'm an international student in the United States the only concern that I have is the shortage of jobs in this field. As you mentioned not every company has the budget to maintain a professional in this field. I believe if I decided to go into this field I must have great ideas created by my own thoughts. So, what kind of advice would you give to someone with my academic and professional background?

I am a rising junior in Human Systems Engineering and planning to go to grad school for at least a Master's. I am triple majoring in English, Finance, and HSE. Do you think l'm on the right track? I have anxiety about not finding work in the field l love (hence my other degree in Finance). Also, do you have any suggestions for me if l wanted to work with human factors research in aviation? It's really admirable that you're curious about many different fields and have the drive to commit to a triple-major. I did something similar, studying engineering, economics, and design, and enjoyed it a lot! The challenge for people like you and me is to explain yourself to others, to make yourself legible. Go out there, work with people, find out what language and labels they use, choose something that applies to you, and substantiate it. You'll have no problem finding work if it's clear that you're providing something valuable to your employer. Re: what to do for human factors reseach in aviation :: I'm not an expert on this, but I'll say this to anyone who wants to do anything at the highest level: Go where the best people are. Find the absolute best schools, companies, labs that put out the best work in aviation human factors, and go there, at least for a while. Live there, breathe the air, and be with them in person.

Most definitely graphic design, and topics in psychology; but there are also a lot of UI design-specific resources. If you’re looking for academic programs I’d suggest focusing on comp sci or graphic design - or both =)

Certainly. But to increase your chances I’d suggest seeking a HCI-focused mentor and adding HCI-focused projects to your portfolio.

Is it common to have bachelor's of HCI? Is it different than others? Experience Design, Interaction Design in bachelor? maybe HCI can take it at engineer type of school and Experience/Interaction Design is usually in Designing school?? because I did find something similar in Bachelor like Interaction Design/Experience Design. And I'm thinking about taking university transfer program in college to get ready for HCI in bachelor then study bit of engineering, marketing or UX design in the future. blow here is not so important. (Don’t even need to read them) I turned 20 this year. lived in canada BC for 2 years in high school. came here without knowing how to spell Hello. lol I think I want to do something like UX designer, Marketer (Possibly digital marketer, marketing management, product marketer?) at the end I might open up my own company. Im not smart, not good at math (i like it more than remember years like history but still lol) as u can see my english is not my first language. Is this a good career-path to study? I thought abt study marketing for bachelor but I also hear that depends on the school, they teach old theory and u don't get to learn newest one and theory is just a theory. knowing other skill from Uni or even diploma with online UX course to combine different skill is better sometimes. Industrial engineer sounds good to. as long as it is worth paying and good for future which is making new business or knowledge to make better service/product, or problem solving. not too too hard. Im willing to study but i also don't wanna go for impassible program. sorry to write it long. but hopefully you can answer them. and it is trend to have master of HCI?

It's a pleasure to see that you are so engaged =) You have many questions, hard to answer in a mere KZfaq comment, but I'll try anyway with some thoughts =) - Bachelor's programs in HCI are not common. Most HCI programs are graduate-level, and their students come with a variety of degrees like computer science, engineering, cognitive science, design, sociology... IMO it is necessary to have a good foundation in some of these (as I explain in the video) before diving into the interdisciplinary field of HCI. - English and math, like HCI and engineering, are skills you can learn =) Don't underestimate your capacity for growth! - You mention many different educational paths - marketing, engineering, HCI... If I were in your position I'd either look for a university program that encourages you to take courses outside your main field and possibly even switch or double-major later, OR I'd start taking some of these courses already on Coursera etc. and see if I "like" the field!

Ideally, yes. In my case it has helped a lot, for landing jobs as well as working efficiently. However, there are many HCI researchers out there doing great work without knowing how to code. So it’s possible to make contributions without knowing programming, but I’d recommend it nevertheless. - M
