I'm a full-time photographer in the Netherlands and I'm planning on showing you a but more of my life as a photographer. Are you interested in photography? Are you looking for a free-online Photography course? Do you want to see the inside of a Photo Studio? Then please, watch my videos and subscribe to my channel!
I'm planning on sharing videos in which I show you my typical work-week as a photographer. I will give you tips & tricks concerning photography, photo shoots, backdrops, studio props, camera settings (iso, aperture, shutter speed, white balance), photoshoot outfits, photoshoot make-up etc.
Ik zal videos maken over camera instellingen (iso, sluitertijd, diafragma, wit-balans), studio achtergronden, fotoshoot outfits, fotoshoot make-up enz.
IMPORTANT
If you are interested in photographing newborn babies yourself I would highly recommend you to first learn about photography in general. Master you camera, photograph in the Manual mode, learn about aperture, iso, shutter speed, white balance, light and composition. Take photos of your friends (adults or very patient older kids) and make sure you don't have to think about your camera anymore when photographing babies. Learn about editing as well. Please, don't experiment photographing Newborn babies without training. Attend a workshop by an experienced and professional photographer with an expertise in Newborn Photography. Learn about the anatomy of babies and invest in good quality cameras, lenses and props. Babies are extremely vulnerable and small and their safety and comfort should be your highest priority. Start with simple poses and make sure you know and understand that many 'pinterest poses' are composites. Please, don't try this at home. If you want beautiful photos of your own Newborn Baby, I highly recommend you to hire a professional and experienced photographer who is trained and specialised in Newborn Photography.

Also, it might help to have the baby use their pacifier/dummy in between poses. Taking it out, right before taking the pics might do the trick

12:17 - that is probably the most valuable tip for anyone: "you don't have to do what other photographers are doing." So true! I'm not a newborn photographer; I shoot mainly primary school aged children, so I make sure I let the kids have a lot of input into the session. This is because as much as I still try to get artsy poses and do things that push the envelope for my portfolio, 8/10 times the photos selected by their parents are the ones where the kid looks the most 'natural' or even goofy. If we make the parents and kids comfortable and happy, they love the photos. It's only our own ego which nags at us to make it perfect or "fine art" 😁 Great video Fenna! While the side-by-side video style works well, I think the way you cut your videos together before was more accessible. I can focus more on what you're saying if I don't have two different things going on at once 😊

Very true. The parents usually love the real emotions and silliness the most. The serious photos are not so popular yet :) Thank you for sharing what you think of the split screen. Maybe watching it twice might help :D However, I might not do it again

Thanks, Fenna- today I had my first newborn shoot and baby was fussy and/or feeding the whole time- it was rough, but these tips are helpful and hopefully it will get easier as I go along. I plan to try a reshoot with this baby- she was just having a rough time:) I love your channel!

Hi Fenna I really adore how you addressed every single thing about photoshoot. Do you ever take any shoot for an older baby like in between Newborn and Sitter Session phase? Like when the baby is 2 months - 5 months old? If so what kind of photography session do you offer to the parents because the baby is hardly can sit by themselves or are allowed to try the smash cake yet.. Appreciated your response 🥰

Just lately I’ve seen a number of photographers online saying to tell the parents to not feed the baby for 2 hours before the session and to keep baby awake for 2 hours. Is it just me that thinks this is awful? Surely we should be working with the baby and it’s routine not forcing it into something which isn’t natural? Aside from that wouldn’t an overtired baby be harder to settle? It goes against everything I’ve learnt. Love your channel by the way!
@FennaPhotography

Ouch I agree with you and it actually shocks me a bit, that photographers tell this to parents.I think you should feed a baby when the baby is hungry (and it's time for a feeding) and you shouldn't keep a baby awake if they want to sleep. This feels so unnatural and mean. As a photographer I'm not in a position to 'mess' with the babies schedule. A shoot will always be lovely if the baby is comfortable. I also love taking pictures of awake babies and I agree that it would be very hard to photograph a baby who is overtired and has just been denied food for 2 hours. Maybe this is a good topic for a video. Also, I think by giving the parents so many instructions ( as to what to do beforehand), you might end up with stressed out parent who are not relaxed, because they've been rushing all morning trying to (for example) bath the baby. I love it if they just go with the flow and are relaxed as they come in. Happy parents and happy baby!

Fenna&Photography you are exactly right. I have not yet started a business as I really want to learn before I take that big step but like you, I feel that it is not up to an “outsider” too tell a new parent, particularly a first time parent to effectively stop their child from feeding or sleeping just so the photographer can have a better chance of getting good shots! There is so much wrong with that I can’t even begin to express how upset it makes me. As you say, I think the experience should be as relaxing as possible for everyone, especially the baby. I feel that some photographers don’t see the baby as human, for want of a better word, they are just looking for their shot. And I think it would be an excellent topic for a video! IT seems obvious to me but sometimes that isnt the case for everyone. My first shots have been of my granddaughter who is now 6 months old. I would never have given my son and his wife instructions on not feeding and keeping the baby awake and if you wouldn’t do it to family why would you do it to complete strangers?

I love your natural, clean style Fenna, I’ve never had parents asking for froggy or taco or one of those poses, I think those are more an American thing?🤔 In Europe parents normally want “cute but natural”, luckily for me! 😅 those tips are very useful, but...have you ever had to reschedule a session because of an unsettled baby, despite all your soothing techniques and efforts?
@FennaPhotography
@FennaPhotography 5 жыл бұрын
I think it might be a cultural thing. I think I only really once in 6 years had a mother ask me for a froggy (she made a whole pinterest board of what she liked). I explained how the picture is usually taken (as a composite) and I explained why I don't prefer this pose. She completely understood and was happy we didn't try to pose her baby this way. When I just started photographing babies, I decided that I would reschedule if a baby would really be unsettled (and not to push it), but it has actually ever happened.

Unfortunately these sessions with babies are all similar, they look like the same baby photographed by the same photographer, nothing against his work if he had the least amount of originality, but there are thousands and thousands of photographers doing this. The only way for a baby to be unique is for him to be photographed awake, but I know, they are difficult to guide, but the photographs show more of the individual and after all we are photographing a complete human being, not a cat breed. Sorry for my honesty.
