You’ve just explained why my driver goes inside when my hands get to hip height. I knew I tended to stand up with the driver and fairway woods but never blamed my detour off-plane on standing up. Thank you for the visual of my fault.

Heya Chris You need to go into the Golfing Hall of Fame. Honestly. The best concept of the backswing I’ve ever ever seen. Coupled with the downswing techniques you prescribe, l finally get it and I’m 65. Decades of wasted lessons. Absolutely brilliant

ok bro i am gonna go all out i just practiced this drill for about 2 hours now and i just want to thank you my guy. 1 month ago i took coaching from a professional coach in noida, INDIA. he was australian certified and all that. he also wanted to teach me this type of swing but he explained one step in one day and took hella money. since past 1 month i was struggling to fix my swing but i could not until this video. earlier i used to hit 250 yards straight drives but during this month i wasnt even hitting it 150. bro after this video I AM BACK. i want to become WORLD NUMBER 1 one day and get ready cause m coming. love from INDIA. THANK YOU

Chris, thanks for this drill. It's so simple, yet effective. I have literally been struggling for almost 6 months with getting my swing on plane. This drill helped me stop over swinging and gave me the ability to properly shift my weight. This has done more for me than lessons, other videos, you name it... Much thanks from Southern California.

I’m finding that training myself to keep these changes on the course very challenging. Keeping the club head on plane “feels like it’s a mile outside my hands” I’ve always pulled the club head in quick stop turning my shoulders and lift my arms. Seeing you improve your swing is so awesome!

Brilliant. I saw thousands of Golf Vids. And never fully understood or felt a nice backswing. I wondered when hinging or coking first while turning the shoulder and tiliting upper body. The equation was too complex and impossible to solve in my little mind. So some days I play well for me (around 8) and the day after 20. Never had the feeling of having the same swinig from one day to another. Your explanation so clear I tried the tips in my garden and felt a nice backswing every time . And not having to think to anything. Many thanks.

I love this drill! I used to call this the Faldo drill and I did it constantly. I honestly thought it was no longer valid. I am so glad to see it is still utilized. This is going back in the practice routine now! Thanks Chris! As a side note, I have been playing golf a long time and read and watched nearly all that is out there. You sir, are by far my favorite as your lessons make sense and are immediately actionable and useful. Thank you!

Agree, best backswing video I've seen. EXCELLENT explanation. I started by just trying to get my hands to stay on the plane, which was hard enough to change, then working the wrist up arms turned part. So far the most progress I made. I was just confused as #$%@ about what was going on in my backswing before seeing this.

That's a great video Chris, I've never even considered the rotation before but this makes so much sense. I'm definitely in the category of hating to look at my own swing and wonder why it's night and day to a tour pro but these little nuggets are invaluable. I only wish the internet had been around 40 years ago and I might have been on the tour. Great work, Rick Shiels is for comedy, yours for education, many thanks for all your efforts

This is so efficient, I can't imagine why hackers don't play golf like this. You may not be tour long, but it's impossible to get into the wrong position at the top at least. I currently have about 4 swing thoughts going through my head during every shot and it is mentally taxing while not really helping that much.

Super, Chris. I’ve always been confused with forearm rotation. Seem to hit the ball better when not rotating the forearms off a 3/4 swing and a closed club face at the top. But therefore lack distance. I’m heading off to your “release” video next as I’m thinking I’m lacking something in the release

This is a really good drill, Chris. Thank you so much. I've used it to sort out my swing plane problems, with one slight addition. Instead of gripping the metal of the club to make sure it's on plane, you can also insert a very long tee peg or a straw into the hole at the top of the grip and use it to check that the shaft is still pointing at the ball as you practice moving through your backswing and downswing. I find that helps particularly with the longer irons and fairway woods, where it's easy to get off the correct plane because of the longer shaft length.

Hi Chris, thanks for this explanatory video. I am struggling with your root cause of a flat or steep rotation. In your video, you are changing the angle of your back body when turning. But you can have a flat or steep rotation and still be in the plan without turning your back angle by introducing the concept of how the elbow is placed from the body: near or away.

I have developed a beautiful golf-swing without ever receiving any training/coaching. I broke it down into 3 steps: 1) This required me to swallow my pride for about 6 months, but, I was tired of hitting the golf-ball all over the course, using my "baseball bat swing," so I just began by LOCKING both arms (Keeping both very straight.) It was VERY "pendulum like." I was only DRIVING THE BALL about 200 YARDS (lol) but it would CONSISTENTLY GO STRAIGHT. 2.) After about 4-6 months of this, my wrists and right-arm began to feel comfortable enough to go into proper position. 3.) Then, I focused on hip rotation. Within about a year, I developed a VERY nice swing without reading/watching videos/being taught.
