Sorry about the annoying birds in the background. Apparently there’s a new nest on my balcony.
Getting a prepurchased inspection and save you from buying the wrong car or buying a car with the wrong expectations. It’s also a helpful negotiation tool as you can split must do maintenance costs with the current owner.

The first time I did this was in the 1980's. I don't know why I blurted out can my mechanic check it. The salesman didn't hesitate to accommodate me. I bought the car. More recently a dealer told me the car I was considering needed brakes after I said I wanted a nearby mechanic to check it. It was on a lot for sale with people test driving it, but it needed brakes. My mechanic found more problems with the car. I didn't buy it. He said he'd never allow a mechanic to check a vehicle again. I'm currently in the market for a car, you can be sure I will have it checked. 😊

Well done! Just bought another car last week (a truck) and had a PPI done, very much worth the time/money to potentially save getting a bad vehicle! Thanks for watching. -Ben

This is invaluable I thought I'd have to do do this behind their back, like take it on a long 4 hour test drive...all the whole taking it to a mechanic. I called Meineke near to a dealer I'm interested in. He said the PPI is $49 But he seemed annoyed by my questions, kinda condescendingly patronizing... So i won't be using that particular place, he was mean on the phone, have a feeling i shouldn't trust him... Good to know the dealer should be willing to agree

This is a pretty damn good video! Is it typical for used car lots to also allow you to take their car out for independent PPI?

Thank you! Yes it is actually typical for them to have a sign posted saying they allow 3rd party inspections.

The dealership salesman says he will come with me when I will take car for PPI, is it right way ?? My fear is he can influence to the mechanic by offering some money behind my back

Make sure you're allowed to select the mechanic. It's totally normal for the dealer to come with you

I have a question im planning to get a used mustang gt pp1 but its at another city(still in texas) once to get approved by credit union for financing should i call the dealership and ask if i can get PPI on the car?

How do you know that the local third party PPI inspectors aren't dirty? Meaning they are the third cousin of the used car dealership selling the car?

Short answer: you don't. As a general rule, dealerships are going to have the most potential risk if they get caught defrauding a customer. This is why it's generally a good idea to take it to a dealership or a mechanic you trust for PPI.

Pretty much. Some places may want to negotiate a sale price pending a purchase of a successful PPI, especially on CPO. Where it gets screwy is on new cars due to restrictions on mileage to still consider it new.

why would the owner agree to that when you may not buy the car?

I mean if the owner is a genuine seller and isn't trying to screw someone over they would do it. Then again its up to the seller because it is their car and if they disagree, just pass up on it because it could mean the seller is hiding something that can drastically lower the cost of their car. That would be my understanding of it
