Learn how to leverage an outside job offer to negotiate your current salary and get a raise.
This is a very delicate and sometimes tricky situation.
But by following these simple steps and approaching it the right way, you can come successful and with a raise.
When asking for a raise, follow these steps:
1. Set an appointment
2. Come in prepared with your value
3. Have a specific number
4. Be ready for negotiations
5. Have a strong conclusion
The most important thing to do is handle this gracefully.
Don't come in trying to get your manager to buy your loyalty. Don't come in saying, you have got an offer and you would like them to match it or you're leaving. That never comes off well and won't leave a good taste in their mouth. makes it feel like you're just in it for the money.
Instead, come in very grateful and humbly.
Express that you've got an offer with another company. How you were quite surprised but really you don't want to leave and you love working with this current company.
Sharing with them that you plan to stay- they'll want to pay for you to stay if they value you.
Go into this conversation ready to do the following
1. Be prepared to share the written offer with them if they ask for it
2. Be prepared to share dates and dollar amounts - when you started with the company, how much you were paid starting off and any bonus' or promotions up to this point.
3. Be prepared to make a decision
Following these steps will ultimately help you get a raise.

You have to be ready to take the other offer, too. Your current employer may call your bluff. However, in this market, employers really are trying to be competitive and stop the bleeding (turn over). Good luck!

I just tried this with my job at McDonalds. I like the employees and where I work, but would like a higher salary. I stated I got an offer from Shake Shack. My manager was not happy and yelled at me....

I had a weekend job that paid $50 cash for 3 hours of work. I had a taxable job full time that paid $10 a hour. They could not see why they should match to bringing home $500 a week after tax.

If you’re looking, then you’ve already checked out from the current job. Don’t bother with a counteroffer; you’ll soon leave anyway.

I wish your video covered child care, I got a shot at a new job that pays significantly more than my current job. But my new job will drastically reduce the time I get to spend with my daughter. Now it’s money vs how much time do I want to spend with my kiddo. I was a stay at home dad and raised her and she is my world, now I have to choose between a more financially stable environment or a chaotic life but we have finically security.

I’m happy where I currently am, in a good company that’s family-owner but has corporation resources. A company with much larger resources reached out to me and offered me around $30,000 more than what I currently make. Great, right? The location is a very rural area of a neighboring state that would be hard for my girlfriend and I to make work, so I’m taking that offer to my current job. This helped me quite a bit.

Currently paid 21.00 and hour after 90 days they said I would go to 22.00 I like the atmosphere of the current company I'm at very relaxed and easy going but I went to the competition to see what they offer and they offered me $26 an hour basically for the same work only problem is I've only been employed for my current role for 2 months and I do need more money
@renaethecareercoach
@renaethecareercoach 2 жыл бұрын
Obviously weigh the pros and cons, research the other company looking them up on Glassdoor or Google search to make sure you're not jumping ship to something that won't be a good fit. $21 an hour vs $26 an hour is a sizeable pay increase. If there aren't red flags, I'd consider taking the role offering $26/hour. Otherwise, I doubt they'll give you a pay increase prior to your 90 days since it sounds like that's just company policy and they won't make exceptions. Best of luck!

I'm in a similar situation, have a job and 2 offers in hand and a due promotion at my current job, the pay of the 2 offers is quite same as the pay after promotion at my current job, I'm willing to stay in the same company so could you please help me in providing some tips that I should consider while talking to my boss regarding the promotion?

Congrats on the offers in hand and a job you enjoy! Approach your boss with gratitude and share your value and why you want to stay! Emphasize 2-3 things you've done recently that merit your promotion. Good luck!

I am baffled by these videos that tell you to never take a counter-offer but at the same time tell you to leverage an offer into a raise. How is this not a counter-offer?
@TheEmperor000
@TheEmperor000 9 ай бұрын
I think those videos are from HR recruiters. If you take a counter-offer it is bad for their industry as they did all the work for nothing. So yeah, probably they say that for their own self interest

You should do what is best FOR YOU. Meaning: you either take the counter-offer or the new job offer based on your own self-interest

If ya have a offer from another' company decide then if u want leave. If not be weary of trying to " leverage" with the current company. No company wants to feel forced. Typically companies will look for your replacement once they've given u that "raise". Remember.... you're pushing them to do something they had no intention of doing. I've been in the business. I know.

You absolutely cannot fake this, though: if you pretend you have another job offer, drop this on your boss, they call your bluff, and you DON'T follow through? You're immediately considered unreliable and will be one of the first employees they drop when given the next opportunity to cut staff. You might even get fired on the spot, so you absolutely HAVE to have a backup plan if you attempt to pull this stunt, because it WILL backfire if you don't.

How can they fire you on the spot? is there a clause anywhere in any contract that employer can do this?
@sergeantassassin3425
@sergeantassassin3425 11 күн бұрын
@@maleekmydin9969 It varies from contract to contract. Some have clauses written in them that people can be let go for any reason and that the employer does not need to give notice prior to employment termination. S'why you always need to read the contracts before you sign anything.
