@blanty1604, look for an accountant who has completed their studies. Usually this is a good first indication. Next you can request testimonials and also research them on social media before giving them a try

after doing my returns i then checked the calculator to see who owes who (was my first time filing this year since i started working in 2029) it said sars owed me, but when checking my statement it says zero, is there something im doing wrong?

@Zama, best to be 100% sure. You can reach out to SARS for help. This is a free service. The alternative is to contact a professional accountant. It is possible that they may have a fee. However this can be provided upfront before you commit.

Please assist.....I'm a financial adviser and use my own car to conduct the bulk of my business. My source code is Irp5 and not 3702 (like the Sars consultant explained to me). My question: Can I still claim my travel expenses??

@Thabo, it depends on how you are remunerated. If it’s commission you should be able to deduct. Are you using a professional accountant to finalize your returns?

@Thabo, start keeping a logbook. You must track your travel based on business and personal. Business includes trips to clients. Personal trips include trips to and from the office and home. Also, work towards getting your post graduate diploma in financial planning. This will not only help you understand tax better but also make you a better advisor to your clients. Consider using a professional accountant. The cost for the return should be covered by the time you save and your refund. Does this help give you clarity?
