i would LOVE to go to a conservatory in 1.5 yrs when i finish high school but i only started playing again 2 years ago meaning my scales and arpeggios (just basic techniques) are lacking my teacher is very experienced with conservatories and told me 1.5 yrs is just too short to get my basics up to the level they need to be on. however, my original plan was to study astrophysics, and coincidentally my teacher's wife who is also a concert pianist, is a teacher in a sort of music education program, which would allow me to do both astrophysics (the more reliable option) and piano. this program suits me quite well and would even allow me to end up doing a piano performance major but i still feel like that wouldnt be the same considering im doing this all combined with studying astrophysics. long story i know but thank u for making this content, any advice?

Tough call. On the one hand, you have a unique combination (astrophysics +piano, cool!) And on the other hand, I totally agree that 1.5 years are going to be short. Because you'll be up against people who have been doing this for 10-15 years, and even they might not have a chance. But this isn't to discourage you, it's just to tell you how things really are. Use the next couple of weeks to decide what your goals are in life. If you decide to dedicate 50-50 to piano and astrophysics, you're probably going to be unhappy with both of the results. I suggest something along a 85-15 split on the thing you want to pursue.

Thank you for watching! I think 3 hours per day is good. You might be in school so maybe only 2 2.5 hours per day work, but thats also fine. You can do it!

That's a great question. The truth is that piano playing is more like an entrepreneur career: most of the times you end up managing a balance of doing concerts and performances, and teaching. Virtually every pianist, no matter how good or famous, at some point goes into teaching of some form - either via masterclasses, or via an employment at an academy, university. So you're either looking for being in a teaching position, or in performance. There are related fields and positions available for pianists such as; conducting, going to chambermusic/ accompaniment, opera music = accompanied for singers, arrangements of orchestral music, becoming an Orchestra pianist (yes there's some orchestra piano parts too), and so on.

So i Just checked some different conservatories and unis and most say for a bachelors degree, the recommended minimum age is 17 and recommended max age is 24. So I think youre going to be definitely one of the "later" ones with 23 but not too old at all!

@@santigalaxy9607it depends on the country. theres no max in the US. "Is there an age limit to apply to Curtis? No. Curtis sets no minimum or maximum age for application or admission. "
