In this video, I explain a few ways in which you can get your first clients as a beginner in photography. I have benefitted from all of these ways and I want to share them with you! Whether you're a photographer or content creator in general, I believe this video can truly help you!

I've been slowly building my photography to a point where I want to make it a business. I agree with doing free photo shoots because every time I do one I get to put it on Instagram and more people contact me about paying jobs. There are a lot of people out there telling me not to do free stuff but I feel the way you do and I would also recommend doing it.

Thank you so much! Im so glad I could help! -- I recommend leading people to book their own spaces via 3rd party sites like Peerspace. Partner with studio owners to see if you can use their space. Look up local studios you like and charge the client your rate plus that studio’s rate(include within your deposit so that you can book it). Or make a studio space in your home if you have space.

If you offer someone a free shoot they will never go back to you and offer money, sorry to say, you’ll always be the free photographer to them.

I can totally understand your view point and that’s totally okay. At most, you received work that you can add to your portfolio, which is super important. Then, after that shoot, they can send their pricing over to them, so they’ll know that the next one is not free. -- thanks so much for watching!!🙌🏽

Do you make your own props..? I want to offer a prop to a photographers to use in their backgrounds, do you think this is something they would buy?

This was very helpful! I have been shooting on my iPhone for years and then i got gifted a film camera and have been working to build a portfolio with that. I want to buy a digital camera soon what was your first camera?? Do you recommend ones for beginners?

Hi Raven, I love me some film cameras so thats awesome! I have a Minolta one. I always recommend the Canon T3i or T4i Rebel series as a beginner. I go way more in-depth about photography for beginners on my “Digital Photography 101” video on my page🤍

Lost it at the end, sorry. Doing free shoots is NEVER a good idea. It's not about being "humble." You are making yourself prey to cheapskates who will never value your work. People who hire free photographers want free photos, they don't care about how good you are. They aren't repeat customers. As soon as you start charging them, they'll move on to the next sucker.

I feel like being a free photographer early out is a bad idea but doing free shooting (not being hired but like going to a ball game and shooting for free) for things you love and aline with what you want to shoot is a good idea
