Today we are working on generating effortless power. You don't have to smash the ball to get it to move around the table, you just need to train accurate striking and really learn how the ball responds to speed, spin, thickens of hit, etc. Welcome to Train With Me episode 21!

There is a finesse that causes the cue ball to behave. There is a trick to hitting a ball "hard", and it's not to hit it hard. Too many beginners, including myself, feel like we have to hit hard to get the cue ball to run or draw. In fact, the opposite is true. Sometimes I am surprised how much cue ball action we can get when we "put" the spin on the cue ball. A friend of mine murdered the cue ball trying to get up table but it died in place. He mentioned he put a lot of top spin on the cue ball. I told him, no he didn't. He hit it so hard the cue ball was not spinning when it hit the object ball. The proof is the cue ball went nowhere.

You're really good at explaining the importance of specific techniques. This is one of those things that I have always known (thin cuts, cue ball runs wild, thick cuts, not so much... top pushes it to run more off the rail, bottom puts on the brakes, etc.), but I've never really took the time to consider the weight of it. I know what I'm practicing tonight. Thanks for making these vids. The production and content just keeps getting better and better! Can't wait for the next one.

Thanks a lot for sharing this informative video. Great advice.This is an area that I'm constantly working on. Fedor Gorst, the Ko brothers, Albin Ouschan, are ones that come to mind who have mastered this concept.

My friend told to do these amazing power shots with all the spin like the power draw isn't about the actual power but the quality of the stroke. And boy did I found out the hardway he was right

people online talk a lot about vision center and how you should be lining up your head so you can more easily shoot where you’re aiming at. some (most) days i’m off with my stroke, but i think if i knew where my eyes should be lining up w my cue that would be helpful. so if you know a trick to train or a helpful way to check and make sure you’re head is lined up where it should be that would be amazing. if the answers just shoot a ton of straight shots until you find what works best that works too. thought it was worth the ask though! love all the training videos though, keep em coming 👍🏼

Applied this worked right away man crazy satisfying when I play now cause I realize it’s really just stroke mechanics tip position and taking to account the thickness of the shot game changer man thanks for this free advice man much love

Great advice but doesn’t hitting high on the cue ball make it more likely to slow it down after hitting the cushion? Or is that only when hitting it hard?

I'd say yes when hitting the object ball full Especially on new cloth the ball will "hydraulic" and spin out it's energy In the example I was cutting the ball and looking to have the ball rolling I showed the example of cutting the ball pretty thin and how hitting lower on the object ball killed the energy (roll) of the cueball That's the takeaway A more subtle part of why I'm teaching "higher strike" is to ensure a better/more level cue angle

Just to be sure, thickness of hit is how much object ball is covered or hit, not how much cue tip contacted the the cue ball?

Yes Thickness of OB hit

I promise I’m not trying to be a contrarian 🙏🏼… Yes, “stunning the ball” the way you do towards the end requires more “power” cause the ball isn’t rolling at contact, but id argue that a high ball (beyond just a rolling ball) kinda does the same thing- it just looks different. The high ball is still fighting the friction of the cloth. But after enough length it becomes the natural roll of the ball. I’d argue if you want to hit this shot with the least effort, you’d use a rolling ball (just above center) with a touch of inside spin. This does 2 things: the inside spin sends the ball towards the desired path without fighting the cloth at all, and with instant roll, instead of it developing over time. But also, it means you get to hit the cueball more towards center, which means more kinetic energy is transferred into the SPEED of the cueball itself instead of the SPIN of the ball. So with the same stroke as you used here, you’d get more travel, meaning more efficiency. Sorry to be so long winded lmao. I do love these videos. I enjoy watching real practice over runouts ❤.

he is trying to do a video and he does not understand the power of rolling the ball... think of it like rolling a tire down the street mr slate billiards

@@dennisperry2044 I don’t think that’s true. Josh is a hell of a player. Certainly better than me. And to the contrary. The whole point of this video is that there’s power in rolling the ball. He might not be slow rolling the ball, but he is rolling it with a natural line. My response to this video is probably too granular and confusing to be used as a point of instruction for this series.

I understand what ur saying but what about poor or better table factor
@SlateBilliardClub
@SlateBilliardClub 14 күн бұрын
When you have the proper mechanics, hit the cueball with the optimal cue angle, stroke the cueball accurately and understand how to pocket the ball into a pocket in thirds you'll be better able to move the cueball around the table smoothly using less power/energy compared to if you didn't understand these concepts If player A slugs the ball with less cue speed, a sub optimal cue angle, and aims "center pocket" on all shots while paying no attention to exactly where the tip is striking the cueball and player B does the opposite/pays attention to and understands all these factors, player B will be using less effort/energy on all table conditions Player B has more accuracy in striking, ball pocketing and cue speed with optimal (level) cue striking angle. Those factors and knowledge scale on all tables and conditions
