It’s worth it to get the case off and scrap it that way, the rest is not worth it

Dude those alternators are worth a hell of alot more if you rebuild them yourself and its cheap and easy to do you can get the parts at autozone to rebuild and they will test them for you for free then i sell them between 50 to 100.00 each

That's not the purpose of this video, though. Some people don't want to rebuild them. How much money would you have to put into it and how much time? Then how long would it take to sell or find a buyer? I look at scrapping as free money.

You can rebuild it but most people will just buy a new one because it's simple and when something is rebuilt, most people will perceive its a junk. Well unless there is no brand new replacement available anymore, just find a reputable company or someone that can rebuild parts.

@@luigiprovencher8888 scrapping is not free money. You will never get anywhere in life thinking your time has no value. That alternator is worth more money whole that the sum of it's parts. Not only did you waste your time, you also wasted your money. Better luck next time.

No 2 Copper wire (burnt) and Heavy copper (pipe) £4.00 / $5.33 a kilo in the UK.

@Paul Warren Hi Paul, where do you get your prices from in the UK as a guide for kilos?,i can only find tonnes and for the little copper i have i am trying to work out how much it's worth. I recently took some old copper pipes in only a handful and got £6.50! but still it is priced per tonne, how do you work out the kg price please, thanks

@@SP330Y Divide the tonne price by a 1000 and you get kg price. Also some metals may be priced in Dollars US, so do a currency conversion . Copper pipe is approx £3 - £4 a kilo, if its mixed with brass or plastic, may well be half that price.

Cool, and I guess it is a great source of aluminum scrap for you :) I don't know what that material is that holds the windings together, but I wondered if it could be burned off.

copper wire or copper coated aluminum wire? looks like aluminum to me i just did 2 ac condenser motors and found out after all the effort the wire was copper coated and was not worth the work to get dirty copper price

I have over a thousand of these alternators in a refer trailer on my property. In the other refer trailer is full of starters and battery cables from semi trucks. Im going to be busy.

Next time tare the container weight so everyone knows that the average amount of copper in an alternator is 2-2 1/2 lbs not 3.8 like this video suggested

Nothing is free. Even though someone might have given you the thing. Unless you don't value your own time and energy. You lost money scrapping it. Most scrap yards I deal with will give me $2.00 for an Alt that I have to do nothing to other then hand it to them.

so you get about 3 lbs of copper for scrap at current market value is $2.03 per pound. $6 in profit would never be worth it for the amount of effort and time that would have to be put in.

Except .10 cents a pound for the whole thing is probably only .80 cents. If you are making most of your money from scrap i think you would rather do the work for $6 then .80

It's a Hydraulic Press. You can buy them either with hand pumps or hydraulic motor pumps. It's just a hydraulic ram is all it is. Very handy machine to have.

How much of that 1.741KG was just copper? It looked like you had some steel in there with it. If that was all copper, that is about 4 lbs from one alternator. F the tvs and microwaves.

U over complicated that waaay too much... Once u cut one end off, just grab the other end with a set of grips, and hammer off the metal to separate it from the copper. U didn't really need to make all those cuts.
