It can be quite intimidating for first timers so I would recommend taking the Keisei Skyliner. But once you're more experienced with the train system, the Sky Access is the best bang for the buck- getting you into Tokyo for less than half the cost of the Skyliner for 15-20 minutes additional time.

I prefer the bus. It costs more but you always get a seat and they go all over or to TCAT. Much easier with lots of luggage as no stairs. Some smaller train or subway stations aren't very accessible due to stairs

My only experience in Japan was on the YCAT from Narita to Yokohama for 3,100Y (now 3,700Y), then we just got on a regular JR to Ninomiya. I thought the bus was a great way to go for first time visitors as it allowed the time to really soak in everything you see out the windows.

If I purchase the package with roundtrip skyliner tickets+72 hr metro line ticket, do I have to use the 2nd skyliner ticket after 72hrs? or am I free to use it on any return date?

What about the Keisei main line train? It's a regular commuter train and costs around 1200 yen, so more than half the express. While it's 30 minutes slower than the express, if you have plenty of time, it's worthwhile. I've used it a couple of times and, being a regular train, can use the Suica card too. Other than that, unless you have a JR Pass, no reason not to use the Keisei express. Although, I might try the bus once for curiosity.

Flying into Narita at around 9pm in 9 days, and not sure how long customs are going to be plus if I will be able to pick up my JR pass. So I booked Transportation to the Hotel ( know the train is quicker) but was worried I will be traveling when it hits Midnight and don't want to risk it.

i think the easiest way to get to narita airport is to take the asakusa line. google maps will say it becomes keisei skyaccess, just stay on the train and it will take you all the way to narita airport

Yes, if you're on that line already. If changing from other lines, going to Ueno for the Keisei is better. The "easiest" still could be the NEX.

May I know the link that you have provided 'Skyliner Discount Ticket', that one is Keisei Skyliner or Narita Express? Will it stop at Tokyo station? Thank you.

That one is for the Keisei Skyliner, which doesn't stop at Tokyo station. You can take the Skyliner to Ueno station and then transfer to one of the local trains such as the Yamanote line to Tokyo station. Alternatively, you can use the Narita Express that will take you directly to Tokyo station from Narita.

Always check your ticket -is it Tokyo NRT (Narita) or Tokyo HND (Haneda)? If you are flying into Haneda make sure your plane lands before 11pm. Any later and it's an expensive taxi into the city. Japanese airports are very poorly integrated into the local transport networks. Lots of international flights from Europe arrive late in the evening as they have more slots available then. Haneda is still mostly for domestic flights. I much prefer using Narita, it's not just about physical distance. I live much closer to Haneda than Narita but travel time from airport to home is almost identical.

Haneda is for Japanese domestic biz sale person since it's 15 mins from Shinagawa, the most imp station that covers greater tokyo area like Shizuoka itami etc. It's common to see those sale ppl doing Same day RT btw kyushu and kanto

If you take the Narita Express towards Shibuya, you mention the train splits in two in Tokyo, is it well indicated if the one you are on goes to Shibuya or is it always a need for a change? Thank you.

Hi there! Yes you will be able to tell. On the display on the outside of the train, the terminal station will be written. In this case, you'll be looking for the train that's going to Shinjuku 😊

If you buy a ticket to a JR fixed-term station at the Narita Airport station, you don't need to buy an additional ticket after getting off the Narita Express. Also, if you touch your IC card at the destination station, it is OK.

Not covered. Tokyo Metro is a subway system in Tokyo. To use it, take the Narita Express or Skyliner to Tokyo Station or Ueno Station. Strictly speaking, if you take a JR local train and go to Nishi-Funabashi Station, there is a Tokyo Metro line. However, there are a lot of transfers, so I don't think it's easy to get there at first glance.

Are you flying into NRT and then flying out of HND with 8 hours in between to spare? If so, you probably only have 5-6 hours max to kill.

Hi there! Yes that's right. This pass is only available to non-Japanese passport holders so they require you to purchase it online or at the counter. If you purchase it online, you can use a reserved ticket machine with a passport reader to pick up your ticket.

I’m planning to stay at Shinjuku. Can I use the Narita Express Tokyo Round trip ticket to get from the airport to Shinjuku station? Or do I have to get off at Tokyo station and get another train to Shinjuku? And can the same NEX Return Tokyo be used to get from Shinjuku to the airport?

You can use it all the way to Shinjuku without needing to get off 😊 You can also use the same pass to return but just note it has a 14-day expiration period.

Hi there! The quickest route would be to catch the Keisei Skyliner to Ueno and then change to either the Yamanote or Keihin-Tohoku line and take the train to Kanda station. You can take the same route on the way back 😊

Yes, The Greater Tokyo Pass can be used on the Keisei Sky access from Narita. Note that it can’t be used on JR lines, and will only save you money if you do a lot of travel outside the central Tokyo area.

You can move from Narita Airport to Tokyo Shinagawa Yokohama Kamakura without changing trains. However, since it is a local train, it takes more time. The fare is 1,340 yen to Tokyo, 1,980 yen to Yokohama, and 2,310 yen to Kamakura. There is only one train per hour, so it is necessary to check in advance. Also, not all trains go to Yokohama and Kamakura, so be careful about where you go.

There is an access limited express as a local train other than the Skyliner. This is operated by Keisei trains, not by JR. You can go to Oshiage Asakusa, Nihonbashi, Ginza, Shinagawa, and Haneda Airport in front of Skytree without changing trains. The number of trains is one every 40 minutes, which is half that of the Skyliner. The fare to Asakusa is 1310 yen.

So with JR Pass, I don't need to do anything to get Narita Express? Just get the JR PAss activated at the JR East Travel Center in the airport, then follow signs to Narita Express, put my ticket in the machine, then walk onto the train and sit down? No need to get an extra ticket, or reserve seats? The video kind of just skipped over this bit, despite many tourists probably having a JR Pass....

JR Pass is recommended if you are traveling more than just Tokyo. Tokyo itself has specific passes such as the Suica, which is more cost effecient if your just in Tokyo

As mentioned in the video, all seats on N'EX are reserved. This means that if you intend to use the JR Pass to get into Tokyo, please tell the JR East Travel Center staff helping you exchange the pass to make a seat reservation on N'EX as well. You will need your JR Pass to get through the fare gates. The seat reservation stub will tell you your car and seat number.

You must be strategic with your JR pass - If your flight arrives late in the evening, do NOT activate your JR pass just to get on the NEX. Doing that will "waste" a day on your pass. What I did on my recent trips was to take a local train called Narita Line and set my activation date for the next day because I landed at around 9pm.

Thank you for the great suggestion. In general, Tokyo’s train stations do have accessible features. You’ll find at least one wider ticket gate for wheelchair access at almost all stations. At the ticket gate, if you tell the staff which station you are going to, they will help you to the right platform and assist you with a ramp onto the train. They will also inform the station staff where you are getting off so someone will be waiting to assist you off the train as well. The only thing is the elevators are sometimes not in the most conveniently located places so you might need to look for the elevator sign or ask the staff (the word for elevator in Japanese is fairly similar to English).

You still need to pay 1270,but the benefits you get for the suica is that as you live in Japan you won't need to buy tickets but you can recharge your suica card and pay from it Expect in the case of this train from Narita airport.

If it's only a few extra hundred yen (extra dollars) for Narita Express, nonstop to Tokyo Station, over the Keisei Skyliner, which is faster but would require a transfer to reach Tokyo Station. Personally, I think it's worth the premium to have that direct service rather then having to navigate myself and my luggage through another station and onto a potentially crowded regional train to arrive at your final station.

If you take the Nex train to Shinjuku and exit the station through the wrong gate, you’ll have a heck of a long walk to get to the other side. A limousine bus that takes you to your hotel takes longer but it is cost effective and you don’t have to deal with your luggage.

@@Andromahlius oh, I've been lost in Shinjuku many times, but I was talking about the Shinjuku train station and getting off on the wrong side of it with luggage to carry around. I much prefer to get lost on the Kabuki-cho side of Shinjuku -without luggage.
