I think you all are thinking too much into it. The main thing we need to take away from this video, is put in a little bit of work to make sure the tech field is right for you and that you can handle new things that may be difficult. I watched this video thinking I was going to apply to flat iron or hack reactor but I'm honestly impressed with codesmith. The fact that this man really is not out here trying to promote the school by using empty promises that are typically advertised, is pretty cool to me. He's blunt and is giving the real.

I'm trying to go to a bootcamp. I own about 28 high quality courses on udemy and have a skillshare subscription. I watch youtube videos all the time on software engineering and programming as well. I have my army gi bill so they'll pay for my housing while I'm in school. I already have money saved. This way I can quit my job and devote full time and THEN some to getting caught up to speed quickly, build a very nice portfolio, and ensure that I not only have the ability to get into an entry level position but that I actually know what I'm doing almost at an intermediate level. That's my goal.. My goal isn't to be just barely good enough to land a job in software engineering. Being actually passionate about it already helps. Having done it in the past for years as a hobby helps and I already know it's something I'm passionate about. I've actually developed for WordPress professionally in the past. I'm decent with python, I know css, I know some Javascript already. I'm working on getting my resources together for my application and hopefully I can get it submitted this weekend.

So, you’re saying that people with no experience shouldn’t waste you’re schools time. Most people are coming to you with no experience
@coursereport
@coursereport 5 жыл бұрын
Around Minute 26:00, all of the schools talk about how to prepare if you have no experience. Everyone started with no experience at one point and most of these bootcamps seem to understand that.

Think of it this way: you are doing yourself a HUGE disservice if coming in with zero experience. Do some prework/ get your feet wet with some code before going in. There's countless FREE youtube tutorials you can search up to get you prepared at the least. You want to hit the ground running when you start, not learning how to walk. You're going to learn more, retain more, and be able to do more if you have some idea of the basics going in because is a soooo much ground to cover to reach job readiness in a ~3 month time frame. Basically, if you think bootcamps are a "free" pass into a lucrative career, GTFO. Do your due diligence and think of it as an investment in your future. You get what you put in before, during, and after.

@@teevo298 damn dude I should have read your comment but everything you said is the absolute truth. Going into this blindly is only going to produce disgruntled people who fail at this thinking they the whole process was a mess and they still didn’t get a job. I seen this many times in college. Do your homework. The internet is a gem that we all should use productively.

Let’s be honest here. Full stack, hack reactor and somewhat flat iron school is the only 3 bootcamp worth it. Hence the only three who answered applicants acceptance rate.

It's funny, I was just reading advice from a screener of admission essays to university applicants, "Please don't mention your 'passion for medicine' " (or coding). It's so cliché and meaningless. Everybody says it, and we should assume you have a passion or wouldn't apply. You should still talk about what led you to embrace whatever you're doing, sure, but don't use that hackneyed phrase. I had a boss who urged us to put our ''passion for [our industry]' on our personal websites, and I always blanched at the thought. My clients were much more interested in whether I'd save them money or be around to take their phone calls. It makes me wonder how long these guys have been in the business that they're still using that phrase.

So... to summarize: we want students who already knows how to code. We don’t want to deal with noobs. We want to only take in people who already self-sufficient to get a coding job on their own. Take their money, give them project to work on, then we claim their hard work as our own unparalleled success. Speak like every tech company nowadays ever.

the word, "passion" is so overused. People who are "passionate" about coding don't go to bootcamps; they do it on their own. People who take the bootcamp route do it ONLY to get a job at the end of it. So these people just want people to make up stories about passion.
