The risks go up with that level of experience. You'll need to have a solid and clear rationale for getting an MBA. A list of the right bschools where your profile will fit in. And a backup plan in case things don't work out.

When one aspect of your application (such as your undergrad institution) isn't exactly your strongest point, the alternative is to work on the other components and make them as strong as you can.

As per my perception after completing MBA I will get to know lot about industries how they work that will help me to understand how to increase the business by taking some company driven decisions and able to understand the true value of it. Though I know I can able to achieve those skills by taking some online courses and reading books but whenever I am going to apply for managerial posts it always ask for professional degree or vast experience on that field that I don't have. One with MBA degree can achieve that role easily like after graduating from B- school and for us it will take near about 8-10 years to reach in that position. Can you please tell me is perception correct and do I need to go for MBA or there is other options that will help me instead of doing MBA.

Hi Sourav, the perception is partly correct. You're right about the part that a good MBA degree can open up managerial positions. However, the 'achieve the role easily' part is incorrect. A lot of MBA grads struggle to get into the most competitive roles. Given the competition, it's not going to be easy. How many years of experience do you have, and in which industry?

Do Ivy League colleges look at undergrad colleges? Like if I have a 4.0 but go to a local college, does that decrease my chances of getting into Harvard?

Yes, all good colleges look at undergrad colleges (and not just the undergrad GPA). A decent GPA from a top tier college carries more weight than a perfect GPA from an unknown college. Having said that, this isn't a make or break criterion. They'll also look at the other application components before taking a decision.

It's in the name - Masters of business administration (MBA). You will need a bachelor's degree as a pre-requisite but even then, your application will be way behind because of the lack of work experience.

The LoRs for MBA programs are generally expected from managers at work, and not from professors. So don't worry too much about it. Just focus on doing good work in whatever job you're in.

When it comes to eligibility, each bschool may have their own specific policies to handle exception cases such as this. In several cases, we've seen bschools being flexible with their policies depending on how they perceive the candidate's profile. So rather than depending on third parties for a black-and-white answer, reach out to your target programs and ask them directly. Send an email to their admissions office. Share a short and crisp profile description (highlighting your uniqueness) and ask them if you'd be eligible to apply. Once they say yes, make sure you do a phenomenal job with your application. Since there are no campus placements, what is the process to be followed and how likely are we to end up at a good job. Depends on what you've already done (business-wise) with that technology, why you need a Harvard MBA (as opposed to one from Stanford or Wharton) and what you plan to do after getting an MBA. If you have strong and logically connected answers for both, then go ahead with it.

Tengo 15 años recién cumplidos y llevo un año trabajando para conseguir esta meta de algún día estudiar en "harvard business school". Hasta el momento me he enfocado en mis actividades extracurriculares y en mantener un buen promedio. Practico voleibol. Hace 7 meses fundé un grupo de ayuda comunitaria con jóvenes de mi edad para mejorar el ambiente en el que nos desenvolvemos, ya que podría decirse que vivo en una comunidad rural a la cual le hace falta muchas cosas. También estoy estudiando una especialidad en turismo sustentable en una universidad cercana a mi comunidad, ya que como lo dije, vivo en una comunidad rural y una de sus mayores fuentes de ingreso proviene del ecoturismo y la razón por la cual me interesó este tema es porque hace tiempo se me vino a la mente una pregunta ¿que pasaría si... pudiese conocer los intereses de los consumidores del sector turístico y tomando en cuenta estos satisfacerlos en base a los principios del turismo sustentable?, sé que estoy hablando mucho de turismo y algunos pueden preguntarse "¿y eso que tiene que ver con harvard business school?", lo que sucede es que no es la unica pregunta que se me vino a la mente, ¿qué pasaría si aunado a eso le sumamos una buena mercadotecnia y si se estructura un buen plan de negocios?, ¿sería rentable? ¿podría representar un cambio en la manera que vemos el mercado turístico y a la vez favorecer al medio ambiente? (Estoy segura de que mi lenguaje quizás no es el más apropiado y quiero disculparme si no sé utilizar algunos términos correctamente, prometo que mejoraré). Sin embargo a pesar de que esto pueda sonar maravilloso o una completa locura estoy segura de que no estoy ni cerca de cubrir con todos los requisitos para ser aceptada. Como ya lo habrán notado soy una estudiante internacional, para ser exacta mexicana. Aún no tengo un completo dominio del idioma inglés y para ser sincera apenas pude entender la mitad del video JAJAJA. Tal vez podría ponerme a escribir todas las dificultades que tengo, pero estoy segura que todos tenemos dificultades, así que no lo haré. Solo espero ansiosamente algun día concluir esta meta, me esforzaré durante los próximos 3 años y que suceda lo mejor 🤞✨.

'Class of 2024' indicates that the graduation would be in 2024. The program starts 2 years before that (in 2022). And the admissions start 1 year before that (in 2021).

i am a civil engineering graduate if i apply for ms in economics and work as an economist will it reduce my chances of getting to hbs because i didn't like my field of graduation age is not an issue with me as i am still 21 even after my undergrad the second route that i can take is to work for "teach for" a global network of teachers who teach under privilege citizens of their society for two years fellowship and enhance their leadership skills communication skills..this would also add a good experience in my resume...needless to mention HBS is my dream mba college....i would obviously welcome whatever else suggestion u would provide me

HBS looks for a track record of achievements. Whether you've changed tracks or not is not that important, as much as showing what you've done after making the shift. Choose the option that you feel really charged up about, and not what others recommend.

You'll need a few years of work experience is you're planning to target international MBA, you'll have to be patient and get a few years of work experience.

Other than the qualificaiton, HBS looks at many other factors as we've covered in the video. So if an applicant isn't from IIT, there are still other ways to make an impact.

Bschools are aware of the difference between a Btech and MTech from IIT. So yes, the undergrad degree will also matter during admissions.

And wait for 3 years at least before applying.

Justifications are evaluated in the bigger context, of what you've done so far, what you want to do, and how an MBA helps you get there. In your situation, one additional concern could be whether you may have another change of mind after starting the program.

Hi Maqbool, if you're looking for a good international MBA, you'll have to be more patient and get a few years of work experience. The average in most good programs is around 5 years. The exposure will also help you in taking the focus away from the grades to some extent.

In one of your video "How to get into Harvard business school" you said Maximum students who get into harvard will have a technical background or students studied in IIT. Is it possible for students having commerce background and normal college degree could get into harvard?

Harvard doesn't have any specific preference for engineers. In fact, they'd like more diversity in the class. So if anyone with a unique, under-represented background applies they'd be more than happy to evaluate their application. Just make sure you have much more to offer on the professional side as well.

You'll have twice that, which makes 'fit' more difficult to justify. What is the reason for pursuing a second MBA?

Your observation is right. An MBA from abroad can increase the income potential. But that's only one dimension of a complex story. There are several risks associated with it too, that you should become familiar with. And have a backup plan in case things don't work out.

We aren't familiar with either, since we haven't helped any client with these programs. Your best bet would be to check with current students and alumni, before taking a call.

Dhairya, these colleges feature atleast in the 650-800 rankings, which is pretty bad. If you are planning to spend so much money, their degrees may not hold much importance and employability may be really really low. If you can go with any other choices for you own sake. German colleges are 10 times better with free education. If freshers' mba is what you need (hard to find in UK) look for deakin and other colleges in australian not featuring in the group8. There are a lot of options we aren't aware of. I personally advised somebody I know out of these choices; if you're looking at investing so much please do consider their ROI and degree value. Rest I'm sure you know what's better for yourself. Goodluck!

Ideally you shouldn't need another MBA if you already have one from a good Indian bschool. Make sure you just go for one, whether it's in India or abroad, when you are ready for it.

Hi Sheelu, good to hear that you've manage to get a job after such a long break. The best option would be to work for a few years and build some good skills and accomplishments to strengthen the CV. Then think about an MBA or any other degree. For now don't even think about this or any other distractions.
