It's more than just a sponge bath. This is a unique water saving camp shower. You have full control over water flow. Interchangeable components allowing each family member their own body scrub. The sponges can also be used for cleaning dishes and gear. It has a fairly small form factor making it one of the most portable camp showers on the market. And it is quick to setup. At the moment, it really is the best camping shower for our family. BUT, there is always a "but" with us. It still comes with it's own issues. Does it have the potential to be a camping gear essential? It could get pretty close. Especially if Geyser Shower acted on user feedback. This could easily be a piece of camping gear you must own if low water is your priority and you need a outdoor shower from time to time.

Another great video! Your work is very good and helpful for campers. For me showering is something I want stupid simple. I don’t want to worry about a power source or fancy proprietary sponges. In my case I have a 2 gallon weed sprayer bottle that I converted to accept a garden hose spray nozzle. Fill the weed sprayer bottle in the morning and let it sit in the sun. I can also add warm water from the tea kettle on my stove. Around mid-day I pressurize the bottle with the manual pump and then spray myself down until the pressure depletes. I usually get 30 seconds of pressurized showering before I need to manually pump again. The 2 gallon bottle holds enough water for my wife and I to shower (we don’t camp with kids anymore). Bonus - the pressurized weed sprayer helps with the dishes too.

That is a great setup. And 30 seconds is quite a bit of pressurized spray. One trick I’ve seen that I like and you’ve probably already done this. People paint that sprayer bottle black., essentially turning it into a solar shower. I’ve also heard of people running a strip of tape down it before painting to be used as a water sight line. This last summer from our local Lowe’s or Home Depot we picked up a battery operated spray nozzle that attaches to our garden sprayer bottle. I hauled it around with me all last summer but never had a chance to use it. Glad you’re enjoying these videos. I really appreciate the feedback.

Hey guys! Great idea! I have a 5gallon water bottle that was given to me as a gift when I finished building my Teardroper. The bottle has a simple spigot to pour water out of. I think what I’m going to do is use an old pump sprayer handle to pressurize the 5 gallon water bottle, and attach a showerhead at the end of a flexible hose and use that as a wash station. Thanks for the great idea, I think this is the perfect application for your KZfaq channel Drew… it gives us crazy people even crazier ideas to work with.

Thank you for introducing us to this product, Drew! I watched this video when it was released, but not particularly interested, as I already have a RoadShower we got free a few years ago. I don't shower with it, but use it for dishes feet, muddy shoes, and assorted other cleaning chores. After a recent camping trip, I thought of a way to wash and rinse dishes easier, as well as save water. I ordered the Geyser replacement hose/valve and a couple of sponges, which arrived today. I'm going to put together an adaptor to use the RoadShower to supply the Geyser hose and sponge, saving water as well as using the already hot, pressurized water. The RoadShower is at 65 PSI, so I''ll need to just crack the valve on it so as to not blow out the fittings on the Geyser bits, or worse case, simply add a regulator. Thanks for inspiring the idea!

As usual, a great video (and once again, your children are simply adorable). We only camp at a campground when we know we are going to use our Springbar tent, and don't want to put it up and take it down every night. It is big enough to provide privacy, but we still either do "bird baths" with a tub and sponge, or wipe down with an Epic brand XL shower wipe. I do not have a sense of smell, but my husband says using one of those gets us really clean AND smelling nice again. I will check out your other videos on this topic. Thanks

I've looked at these online but always wondered if its really much better than a pot of hot water on the stove and a wash cloth? I just couldn't justify the additional bulk/expense if it was only a slight improvement. In the end I landed on a diy solution consisting of a traditional RV 12v pump, a lithium battery jump starter pack, and a 4.5 gallon pet food storage container. Everything packs into a 12x12x12 milk crate when not in use. Its a balance of bulk, expense, setup vs effectiveness. Not for everyday use but easily extends a week into two.

I live in an old mobile home and my 10 gallon water heater died. Now I could spend $400 to get a new one, but I decided to try something else. The water heater is at the shower head end of the shower. I bought a 17 gallon round storage tub and set it on top of the water heater; a bucket immersion heater; a camp shower that uses a bucket. I heat the water in the tub to 120 F (after all, your body temp is 98.6) and it takes about 50 minutes (I can check the temp with a laser thermometer). The regular shower head is replaced by the camp shower with its pump in the storage tub. So I get in, press the button to start the pump, and then I can take a nice, long shower (for me) for a good 10 minutes with the temp being the same the entire time. I've used this for over 6 months now. If I were to use this for camping where electricity was available, I'd just use a 5 gallon bucket. When you're poor, you've to do what you've got to do to get along.

Good point on our body temps being 98.6. That would have been a much better way for me to describe the feeling of 95 degrees in the video. I think I understand your new setup. What are you using to heat the 17 gallon round storage tub?

@stevec3872
@stevec3872 2 жыл бұрын
Let me add this caveat to water temperature of 120 F: That's hot enough for a shower dispersed through the air which cools it some, enough not to be too hot, and even a little hotter than that is too hot to stay under. Now if you were to put your feet into a bucket of water at 120, that way too hot, which I learned from experience. But that temp coming out of a shower head is just fine for me.

I know you can't compare the cost and quality of a locally manufactured product but $325 seems a bit steep for what it is, when I paid the equivalent of US $250 for the similar but more versatile Companion Aquaheat here in Australia. Nonetheless, I would have happily supported them if they sold the hose and tap with the sponge head on its own because it's a brilliant idea and its connection looks to be the same type as used by the Aquaheat and most other camping hot water systems. I'll have to MacGyver something together instead 😁

Good to here from you Matt. I love the concept of the road shower. Permanent mounting out of the way. Solar heated. Large capacity. But what I’m finding overtime is I don’t like to haul water when I’m on the road. So due to that I’m finding more simple set ups like a basic solar shower fits my needs better. But at the same time I think there’s certain styles of camping and adventures I go on where the road shower would be perfect for that week. Does the road shower make any alternative attachments for low flowing water? It would be pretty simple for them to make some sort of gravity fed sponge attachment you would think.

*waves* hi drew. Truth is, this system is very good for cases where you have to pack the water. Where you don't have access to a fresh water source... in the winter where you have to melt snow for water. In cases where you don't want to keep a 55 gal water bladder filled up though, at the same time, the water bladder/drum also does act as a heat battery, it keeps bleeding heat for a long time when the fire goes out. first problem i see, proprietary scrub brushes that you need to keep paying for to replace. Not a fan of companies that do that. oh, if you are wondering about the 87 why not 95. Hot water rises. if the sensor is at the bottom they may worry that there will be a separation in temp where the bottom reads 95, but the top is hotter. now if you ARE near water sources and/or are using a large water bladdeer/drum for water storage, you can get propane hot water on demand water heaters. These things work the same way, dump the hose in the river or into the barrel, or attach it to the bladder. start the pump, start the propane. These often run about 30-50 gal of water per pound of propane used. A few actually take 1 pound bottles with adapters for larger. of course then theirs the truly and totally insane option. solar panels and generator feed electric water pump. which transfers to a reverse osmosis water filter system, which in tern branches out between export water straight for drinking, cleaning, etc, and a propane powered hot water on demand system. now you have safe and clean water to shower with and drink. And entirely to much disposable income.

And then have a secondary attachment that could be switched out to give you a proper shower if that’s what you want. I may have to try making one this fall to see if it works. I don’t only be out the price of a solar shower if it fails. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

Hi Drew, so I just watched a video of van self made set up by engineer. He was using removable/ rechargeable battery operated water sprayer with like 1 or 2 gallon tank that is used for spraying weeds in a gardens. It was inexpensive and for extra saving you can get extra battery. That said, I will be purchasing the same brand sprayer as our portable drills which use the same battery, so I would be able to have extra interchangeable batteries. My plan is to use warmer water that would be preheated on a stove. I still need to figure out how to make the handle shorter, then it will be good to go. What are your thoughts on that? I share the same geographical location with you and wonder where or how do you get your battery power stations. REI here has limited brands, Costco has some brands from time to time but I knew nothing about them and Amazon will not ship it to us.

In theory this should work. And I will definitely be trying it out. My only hesitation is that the multiple sensors in the canister may be set at different temps. It’s odd because they don’t tell you to stir the mixture. The instructions just say pour in the cold water first so it doesn’t set off the temperature threshold and then put the boiling water on top. I’m not sure how cold water and hot water mix, but I can’t imagine pouring them in at different times gives you a very even water temperature inside the canister. I would think the temperature would be different from level to level. Can you tell I’m a little perplexed by their system?

I really like the pressurized 4" pipe idea. Very clever. The problem is ABS is not for potable water - it is meant for waste water and leaches chemicals. The thing is it really can't be leaching that much or the chemicals cant be too bad, because even if it was only used just for waste water, it would be contaminating the ground water, and I read nothing of the sort. PVC can be used for potable COLD water. CPVC can be used with hot water, but max size is like 2". PEX same but anything over 3/4" is nuts expensive. 5/8" RV water hose is about the best deal for potable water, but takes about 50 feet to store a gallon. (Yeah, I calculated the sizes all out ... I got WAY too much time on my hands.) Keep up the innovation!
@2-old-Forthischet
@2-old-Forthischet 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikemead2315 I copied the idea from someone else on Ew Toob. In fact, I just measured my roof rack today and I will be adding another 7 foot length of 3" ABS pipe which should bring the total amount of water to about 9 gallons for showers. I also bought a water transfer pump to add more when on the road. I know that ABS is not to be used with potable water. We carry extra containers for that purpose. The reason I'm doing all this is because I know I'll probably be selling my trailer in the near future. A trailer is nice but it does have it's downsides.

The more you use it you really come to hate the sound it makes when the waters out. I Find myself taking much longer showers than I need. Basically they are comfort showers so when I hear that water run out I get a little 😞

Most potable water tubing and plastics used in pumps cannot tolerate hot water, that is why RV water pumps do not pump hot water, but push cold water into a heater. Disabling the temperature shutoff sensors could affect longevity, but at what temp and how much. If the water was premixed to a reasonable known temperature, I could see disabling the temp sensors (or pulling them away or insulating them) having no affect on longevity.

@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks 2 жыл бұрын
I was hoping you asked this question. I remember quite a while back you and I talked about just a nice plain old sponge bath. Earlier in the summer when I was really frustrated with this shower you gave me an idea for a video. The video was going to be Geyser Shower vs. Sponge Bath. At the time I didn't think there was really any benefit of the Geyser over the sponge. I still had to heat both the waters manually and the only difference was a pump vs squeezing my hand and re-dipping the sponge back into the bowl of hot water. And yes a nice simple sponge bath saves you $255 to $320 of upfront costs. I did test the two a little this summer. the only difference that stuck out to me was temperature and ambient temperature between sponge refills. The nice thing about the "traditional sponge" was I could get the water nice and hot. It was very therapeutic on those chilly days. However, that would be followed by a drafty feel every time I had to reach back into the bucket to gather more water. Where the Geyser with its never ending flow felt a bit more like a shower in that I didn't have a gap of time where there was cold air hitting me without any warm water coming out. At the moment I think the traditional sponge bath and the geyser are a draw/tie. But, if they could get that temperature threshold a little higher I could definitely see the Geyser Shower being a better option. And I don't like to use power when camping if not needed. But a set it and forget it shower is also very nice. Eliminating a stove, pans, etc. makes the experience much nicer. There wasn't one night where I passed on a shower due to laziness from the setup.

@@PlayingwithSticks Good points. Easy usage is key. Setting up and using once is not an issue in any situation. However, when setting it up everyday, ease of use gets to be a very big deal. I bought a pump and instant propane water heater. Works great for satisfaction, but what a pain to set up, obscene water usage, and takes a ton of storage room. I only used it a couple times. I could only see it as a permanent setup on a camper/camp with fresh water access. However, in a low water setting, I could possibly see it as a luxury continuous shower recirculating a couple of gallons of really hot water AFTER getting clean with a sponge bath to really get heated up - like a jacuzzi 😃

I love the recirculating water idea. And to be honest as many negative comments as I get about it on KZfaq I’m actually OK with the dirty water. But you make a good point. Why not get yourself clean first then all that recirculating water will be nice and clean giving you a never ending warm soak. We definitely enjoyed our camp water heater this summer. I like you mentioned it was just a little too cumbersome for us. To us it would be worth the hassle for fall and early spring camping. Or like you said if it was permanently mounted. But we decided it definitely wasn’t a fit for us for summers. For summers it’s the solar shower bag and then some other simple shower like the Geyser or sponge bath for us. All the heating issues aside, having to use proprietary scrub pad shower heads would already make this a nonstarter for me. Cool idea, but too many drawbacks. Thank you for the video, and I hope you'll cover some of their other products as well, with the level of critical attention you show here.

Instant Electric Cooking Thermometer with Probe and Alarm. I use it all the time for everything: meat (its intended use), other cooking, ambient air and water temperature, camping refrigerator temp monitor, etc. On my third one in 10 years. I need another one - my current one has gone flakey.

That is a great idea! From the channel comments we picked up the thermometer used in chicken coops/greenhouses/fish tanks. We have used it for quite a few things. It would be perfect for this application. Especially for that alarm.

Hot shower? You mean lukewarm sponge. Myself and my family were really excited about this product as it seemed like the perfect solution for our Overland rig and for use after scuba diving. Unfortunately the concept of the 12 volt heater is highly flawed and if I have to boil water there's much cheaper systems. I've never been able to use the 12 volt system to heat the water above 95 and unfortunately it gets worse from there as the thermostat gets stuck in that position and will not continue to reheat the water unless I pour all the water out and fill it with ice cold water to reset the thermostat highly inefficient. If you wait more than five minutes after the light comes on you are taking a 90° sponge within 20 minutes it's about 85° definitely not what I would describe as a hot shower. Most disconcerting of all is the fact that a quick Google search found that I was not the only one having this problem which means the company must be aware of this flaw and is continuing to ship a defective product. Now I'm out well over $300 for a fancy lukewarm sponge.

Did you post this comment before you watched our review? Just making sure you saw that we said the same thing. Sometimes I find people post comments and give up on the video before watching the results. I’m really glad you posted this here. I’ve talked to a lot of people who own these and they’re having the exact same issues.

Haha. This gave me a good laugh. So true! I often wonder the times we come across the sulfurous hot springs does that smell stay on your body? I have never noticed it when camping. But, I often wonder if my nose just got used to it.

@@PlayingwithSticks It's usually about 3 days when I start looking. And by then, especially if you are with someone, the smell of hotsprings is much better than BO.
