Haha! So true about putting in your own money. I call it baiting the tip jar. I have given a friend a fiver to come drop in the bucket before as well. It really triggers others to start tipping. Love your channel!

This is great. I've been performing for 9+ years, and I may have missed a dozen "thank you"s after being tipped in that time, but I doubt it's that many. Gratitude is so much... I put a $2 (US) bill in the tip jar to start; the novelty and wild-card-ness of it catches the eye. I only have one performing rule, and that is when someone requests Freebird, I play the whole thing. (Limit one per show, no solo.) I use a QR code for cashless tipping...

Just saw a great band at The Stage in Nashville. Singer said "For a hundred bucks we'll play Free Bird." Short time later, someone ponied up, so they started playing it. Halfway into the song someone else handed him something. They stopped playing... He said "I forgot to tell you, for a hundred bucks we'll STOP playing Free Bird." 🤣

Another great joking way to ask for tips - make up a silly super-expensive habit you have to support. Nick Jaffe (JustNick Music) is great at this, e.g, saying he's got a lot of Faberge eggs lying around that need cleaning, and that shit's expensive ....
