Excellent video. I'm getting my house ready for sale and there's several spots where trim is missing and/or needs to be replaced. I've been scouring youtube for good tutorials. This is one of the best. As a 62yr old grandma, I feel much more confident doing the repairs after watching this.

I also heard you can use tape on the cut so that the finish doesn't chip with most types of wood - take with a grain of salt though no idea what kind of tape or if it actually works. As for the finishing, use a damn putty knife thats as close to the size of the baseboard as possible, use DAP (the blue container with pink stuff inside) and use very light coats, sand with 360 grit, wipe with soft cloth and tape your wall with painters tape then caulk using your finger in one smooth motion (no going back over it if you can avoid) then paint pronto and once done peel tape - this will give you a very clean line & prevent hours of trying to sand something (also scrape your putty knife edge to clean it every few passes) this only works if you don't have stucco walls inside. When doing trim you touch don't roll it, use a high quality brush and floetrol - will get you very smooth or glass like finish - actually you should spend money on 3 things and go as high quality as you can 1. paint brush 2. roller (the frame if you will) & 3. drop sheet 3 1/2. a decent locking extension pole of your choice

great video. question ? so when you are joining the two pieces of baseboards like in the middle not inside or outside corners but just connecting two pieces did you just cut both the ends to 45 degrees. That is what it looks like and add the wood filler so you can't see the seems?
@rodsnerd5176
@rodsnerd5176 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty good demo but can see about an inch above the new baseboard where the top of the old baseboard was. Looks like the wall was just painted over. I would've either sand it out and match the orange peel texture of the wall or just put the orange peel on, then paint. Just something I would do.

Woodworkers trick... use both. I use a couple dabs of CA on one side & spray hardener on the other in the center to place and hold the pieces to get perfect alignment, but most of the joint is held with traditional wood glue around the outside edges. The CA will hold the alignment and the wood glue will provide the strength.

Outstanding. This is the only part that’s giving me fits. God help you if you don’t get that set perfectly with that CA glue….you’re f**ked. I’d kind of like to see how that’s fixed. I need a few more seconds of adjustment time. So, maybe I’ll try using the drops on both sides method. I just don’t want it to get messy. Great video!

Honestly u don’t need to do an overlap mitre joint to abutt skirting nowadays it’s the old traditional way of doing it to produce a larger glue area for the two separate pieces join up securely but nowadays with far more superior glue available and all the modern skeleton gun applied adhesives u can just butt joint them at 90 degrees to each other it’s far quicker and easier don’t get me wrong the way shown here is still superior but nowadays it’s overkill and honestly unnecessary ur end results will b just as good with a butt joint if done competently modern pva,s form a very strong joint that won’t part under normal circumstances

I didn't know there were nail guns without an air compressor! Do you recommend the one in this video to do an entire apartment or is it better for small jobs? This was very helpful!! Thank you so much for making this video!
@stevesether
@stevesether Жыл бұрын
Personally I find the air tools with a small compressor great for small, occasional jobs. I have a lot of battery powered tools as well, but the battery powered tools can get expensive since you're paying for tool+battery. The air powered tools are generally very inexpensive, and I've gotten a lot of use out of an inexpensive brad nailer, and an inexpensive flooring stapler. YMMV.

I use a 18 ga brad nailer by ryobi and I use two 5ah batteries for it it is around 250 in total but works great! I believe it’s more expensive to have a air tool. But yea ryobi has never given me any problems while doing trim moulding

Scarf joint looks great! Question... Im thinking about DIY my baseboards on my new Vinyl Plank Flooring. The installer said to use 1/4" spacers for installing the baseboards to allow for expansion. But I noticed you just laid them on the floor planking and nailed them in... Is this a mistake on your part or is the 1/4" space really needed?
