How To Get Redshift Textures to Stick to Animated Objects (in C4D)

This video's pretty important for those who don't know about 'texture-swimming' - and it could well bail you out of some nasty situations.
I'll be covering the topic of 'texture-swimming', and demonstrate how to prevent/fix it via a variety of scenarios and solutions. This includes Maxon Noise nodes, Tri-planar nodes, and non-UV-projected textures.
For those who don't use Redshift, the 'Pin Texture' tag (previously know as the 'Stick Texture' tag) should work in most cases. People have claimed that this also works with Redshift textures too, but I've not really had any luck with it...
Let me know if you're having any issues, or if there's anything which you think I've missed on this topic.

I'm having the issue with a cloth surface. Seems like the same issue as the Subdivision surface but adding a redshift tag doesn't allow me to add thickness like the clothsurface does. Any thoughts?

It's rather tricky for me to answer without more detail, but I'll have a go based on what I've read. The solution I have works for deformers, but not joint-based rigs; however, you can use the 'Mesh' deformer to reference objects animated with joint-based rigs (like what's demo'd at around 7:00). Assuming you're using deformers to animate: try placing the Cloth Surface into a null, and place the deformers on the same level of the hierarchy (e.g. a null containing a Cloth Surface and Bend deformer). Keep the Redshift object tag on the object that's inside the Cloth Surface for the subdivisions, and remove subdivisions from the Cloth Surface generator itself. The texture may look different due to the Cloth Surface's 'Thickness', but it should stick when animated. This method should also work with the Mesh deformer, should you need to reference point-level animated objects. Let me know if this helps, or if I've completely missed the mark.

My texture is still "swimming" :-( I'm applying a flakes texture on a cylinder object inside a cloner with a balloon + some wind and turbulence. RS object applied with tessalation, no subdivision surface. Generate UVW Coordinates is not available. I thought before seeing your tutorial that it had something to do with my UV edit, but my UV map seems correct. I kinda don't know what to do 🤔😮‍💨 Any idea ?

There's a couple of suggestions that I can think of trying first: - If you can make the Cylinder object editable, that should allow you to generate UVW coordinates from the UVW tag. - Check the material projection (in the material tag) is set to UVW mapping (i.e. not Cubic, Spherical, etc). If those don't work, or can't be used, I'll need a bit more detail about your scene set-up. From how I've interpreted it, I'm picturing the following: - Cloner, with 2 children: a Cylinder (primitive object), and a balloon (custom object) - Wind and Turbulence forces affecting the clones - Cylinder has RS object tag, with tessellation enabled - Cylinder has a material applied to it, which is using an image texture (e.g. jpg, png, etc) - The texture is swimming on the Cylinder Let me know if I've misunderstood anything in the set-up above, and I'll get back to you with a solution (unless the initial suggestions work).

To be accurate with the scene : a cloner with one child, a cylinder ( editable object), the balloon is a simulation tag applied to the cloner. -That's correct for wind and turbulence -yes there is indeed a RS object tag with tessallation enabled, the cylinder has also a phong tag (by default with angle limit checked, 40degrees, use edge breaks checked) + UVW tag (I checked the map and it looks rather ok for the UV mapping part ) -The texture on the cylinder is procedural. Done with the flakes node. Looks like following : Flakes + Ramp connected to RS standard on metalness and bump map + another ramp connected to the RS standard color. RS standard connected to the output surface. I didn't saw any animation thing turned on. - The texture is indeed swimming. It's on UVW mapping mode. - I tried the pin material but doesn't seem to work on redshift.

@@romuk3092 In the Flakes node, set the 'Coord Space' to UV. This should cause the flakes to stick, but may require some UV changes... A quick method would be to use something like a Cubic UV projection in the material tag, and then right-click the tag and use 'Generate UV Coordinates'. This should do the trick; if not, let me know!

Thank you very much@@JTC4D . I set UV to the coord space in the flakes node and it worked. Though the texture needed some adjustments indeed. I'll keep in mind the cubic UV method.

you could just use the pin material tag.

If it works, then go for it! Just to clarify: at the time of recording and version of C4D (2023), the Pin Material tag wouldn't always work with Redshift materials - it really depends on the kind of material you're working with.
