Good morning everyone,
Today I did some trimming of branches on a few trees in my parent's garden and realized that our oriental weeping apple tree is full of aphids and of course full of ants which have made a home at the bottom of this tree.
Mutualism is advantageous for both partners. Aphids provide ants with sugar-rich honeydew as a source of food and the ants protect the aphids against various natural enemies.
So I decided to try to use sticky tape for crawling non -flying insect
I feel like It is SAFE PROTECTION FOR TREES without damaging fruit, leaves or roots.
The tape creates an ant barrier due to its stickiness and makes it challenging for ants to crawl across it. If any ants do attempt to cross, they may become trapped in the sticky substance, deterring others from following.
I will cut the clear tape to the size of the diameter of the tree trunk aaddedadd a few cm for overlapping the tape
I will be placing the tape approximately 40-50 cm high from the ground as the tree is very small.
Let's Start wrapping my piece of double sticky tape around the trunk of the tree, ensuring that the stick side faces outward.
Then I will bring the ends of the tape together and press them firmly, creating a snug fit around the trunk. And now I am using this strip of tape to additionally secure it.
Prevent branch contact
Make sure that the branches of your trees do not touch the ground or any fences or other objects that could provide a bridge for ants to reach the trunk.
Maintenance and Longevity
I know that over time, dirt and debris may accumulate on the tape, reducing its stickiness. You can simply cut this one away and add a new layer of the tape
Protecting your trees from ants is crucial for ensuring the health and productivity of your fruit-bearing plants. By creating a simple barrier using ant and crawling insect tape, you can effectively prevent ants from climbing up the trunk and damaging your precious fruit. This cost-effective solution is easy to implement and requires minimal maintenance.
To fight the aphids,
I have made my mixture in a cup of warm water, adding one teaspoon of liquid soap and two
tablespoons of pure neem oil.
After a good stir, I poured the mixture into a spray bottle.
And then I sprayed all the branches and leaves, concentrating on the ends where are most of the aphids.
I have already done it two days ago and I can see a huge improvement. Almost all aphids are gone.
