Tip: if tone is too dark or bright, adjust the blend, not the highs Peavey pro 500: most controls are to adapt to the rest of the rig but some key points: high boost and low cut engaged, contour cranked. Highs are on 2 on my unit but YMMV. For the parametric EQ i'd say noodle arround to find sweet spots but a heavy scoop at 800 hz is the core.

Paul actually used VERY light gauge strings for the tuning they were in, which is a huge part of his tone. He used a .115 gauge for the low B, which is about what most people would normally use for C#. He also had super low action, half of his tone is literally just clanky fret buzz. And he used basses with active soapbar humbuckers. You'll never get that thick, aggressive attack out of a Rick
