Can you set lower bitrate for XAVC S? I found online that its 50Mbps that's crazy for 1080p

thank you for this informational video, i have the same video camera however i realize that when i record long videos of 2 hours or event 45 minutes, when i export the files on my computer, the video files are precisely cut into 17 min clips one after the other which i find confusing and annoying when you want one long video. could this be a setting? i would appreciate any help i could find. thank you

XAVC S HD is a great format to film and it's in mp4, but the file size is LARGE as hell...depending if you're filming for football, baseball, etc etc like long periods of recording the file size is really large...we're talking about 50GB-100GB large. I use AVCHD and MP4 dual rec with MP4 on editing phrase then replace it with AVCHD footage to get better quality.

The .MTS file format is a business-decision DISASTER. I have a pretty new Sony camera. By default the video is saved as .MTS Here's what I found. MP4 is recognized widely. MTS is like an unwanted stepchild. IF you can find a video file converter that will even open an .MTS file, it drops the audio. THIS IS A *_WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM_* apparently. I dug into it -here's what I found: 1) Sony bought a company that developed the .MTS file format in 2006. THAT'S 18 (eighteen) YEARS AGO. And to this day, Sony cameras still produce this USELESS video file format that no file format converters or video editors recognize. 2) thank you for your video - I'm going to see if my Sony camera has this option. Rest assured, I'm never, never never EVER buying a Sony camera for video again. Apparently, Panasonic and Canon also got looped in to this .MTS file format disaster, and I'm never buying any of their gear either for video. If the video recording device FAILS to save in MP4, do not buy it. XplainD's video here may be a solution. I'm now looking for a video recording device that records, by default, in MP4. NOTE: the popular VLC media player will playback .MTS video. It also has a converter to MP4. But again, there is no audio if you convert an .MTS file to .MP4 in VLC. THANKS XplainD! .
