Something my Dad taught us as kids, always carry good rope with us. We always have 1/4" and about 30' of it. Worked great in the Bighorns and Lolo Pass many times. The first thing is to roll the sled part way, or dig to get at the bottom of the track. Then run the rope under the bellypan. Now run it around a steel track clip that the drivers push on (through the holes in the track)and tie it really good. Lay the sled track down again. Now take up the slack and tie the other end of the rope to a tree or a solid object. Start the sled and SLOWLY allow the track to turn and tighten the rope. Slowly giving more throttle will wrap the rope around the track as the sled moves forward under its own power. Once unstuck, carefully remove the rope and save until next time. This is something that's great when you're alone.

Folk around here there is 4 phases in snowmobile hobby. 1.Get a sled 2. Get it stuck first time 3. Get it free 4. Get home and put the sled for sale. Gotta admit first time getting it stuck was very painful and exhausting experience that made me think selling the damn thing, but wire winch and 4ton strap are now always with me so i can just brute force it out from any hole. Actually managed to do the same when i was kid and riding one first time. Trying to get over a ditch.. not taking enough speed since afraid and just planting it into the ditch.

Tree riding nosing into a tree too big to cut down and no body can get to you to help. Tying a rope to a tree up mountian as an anchor and tie the other end to a window in your track you can use track as winch to get your sled off the tree. This works great in really tight steep trees. Great video Dan!
@Yamadeere

That would be good to see a vid of. Hate to try it out though

@@Yamadeere used this trick to get a 174 out of a creek. Sled was nose down and ice shelf was 5' from the creek bottom. Used another sled as an anchor and a guy in the creek pushing up on the skis. I try to avoid those situations bit carry 30' of 2500 lb static climbing rope just in case. Only need to get the sled to go up hill by 3' and set the parking brake. Pull sled over so it will miss the tree and get the rope out of your track. Only had to use this move 3 times but when you are alone in tight old growth it can save your ass.

I’ve had a couple where it’s easier to just walk out and buy a new sled. 😂 Seriously though, my brother had one so bad in the bottom of a drainage last year we had to come back in the spring. At one point we had 8 guys trying. Wish I could post pics here. I promise he’ll never do that again. I’ve had some great on hill comedy watching some people who just don’t have a clue. And your right, a lot of times they end up in a yard sale down the hill (usually the guys who kinda deserve it and know everything). But hey, I’ve done it before myself...nobody knows everything or can do it perfect every time.Thanks for another great one.

I once got stuck on flat ground. I was driving a lynx rave 600Re, and it was 1.5m powder on our farm fields. I was driving as fast as i could and the skies was up in the air. I just steered by leaning on that side i wanted to go. One of the fields went slightly uphill and had a fence on the end. So i had to turn. AS I Let the throttle off my skies went on the snow giving me a breaking effect. The belt spins at a really high speed but the friction of the skies stops the snowmobile. I never had time to react and use the break to stop the belt from spinning. I digged a hole all the way through the snow and to the ground. The snow depth was to my waist. I walked all the way home to get a shovel because it was impossible to get the snomobile unstuck by hand. I was really exhausted because walking in snow up to your waist is really hard in thick clothes. My friends still jokes about the hole i made since it looked like someone dropped a bomb there 😂😂

Today I was trying to get through at stream crossing that had a culvert out and icy wet snow and I ended up stabbing into the Stream bank the other side basically and I was very stuck....I actually found a great technique was to roll the sled on its side and then winch it backwards out With a lug all come along... otherwise the backs of the skis tended to dig into the bank

Thank you for showing us that mountain sledding is far too much work.

Oh man. We rode 160 miles the other day. I just HAD to do one more loop out in the potato farm fields. Was tired and hit a side hill that was about 5’ deep and sucked my 2019 TNT Ski Doo 600 down the hill, pretty much just like that. OMG, every step I took, I sunk and my boot stuck. It was absolutely grueling, My husband and I turned the sled together and he drove it like a ninja, boondocking up a hill FULL of trees. It was amazing. I appreciate this video. As a female rider, OMG 😱, it can be the end, LOL 😂

Glad to see I am not the only one who breaths hard when trying to get a sled unstuck! However I usually have to ether take off my helmet or always now with my CKX flip it down or I will have a heart attack!

Good seeing you laugh, usually too serious, can be professional and still joke around a bit.

Obviously snow conditions are everything. You guys never locked the brake to add stop and safety while rolling over the sled. I’ve had a sled more than once in steep just keep on going. Learned the hard way. Powder versus Spring snow. Just curious how you feel about it. I do like a lot of the techniques of freeing up the track to break the suction. Thanks
