How To Get Wider Lats | Back Width Workout

Looking for wider lats? The variations I do for back width might be just what you're looking for. If you feel like you have a hard time connecting with your lats exclusively then these three tweaks on popular exercises will definitely do the trick.
Let me just pull out two main points from the video to highlight. This first thing I want you to try is to keep your elbow in a fixed position and let your lat do all the work. By doing pulling movements in an arch motion you're going to limit how much other supporting muscles get involved.
The second thing is to perform each exercise in a range of motion that feels best to YOU. Even if you end up doing a very limited partial rep, the only thing that matters is that you connect with the muscle.
I'm excited to see what you thought of them in the comments below!

This guy is brilliant. Totally changed the way I do several of my workouts now. I always thought engaging secondary and tertiary muscle groups was just something you couldn't avoid when doing certain exercises but by switching things up a bit like this guy advised I'm able to primarily engage my primary muscle groups. Now, I can actually have a shoulders day after back day because I didn't bang them up so hard previously. Amazing.

What part of your back day bangs your shoulders up?
@CleanQuantize
@CleanQuantize 4 жыл бұрын
nvmffs real delts are more of a pulling muscle than they are pushing, so back exercise tends to activate your real delts
@nvmffs
@nvmffs 4 жыл бұрын
@@CleanQuantize That it does. But I can't imagine what kind of intense back workout can bang your rear delts that much. The rear delts are a lagging muscle in most people for a reason. Besides, they're the smallest head of the deltoid. Even if you did hit them hard on your back day, it's all good. That means they don't need any more training so you can just focus on the medial and anterior heads.

@CleanQuantize
@CleanQuantize 4 жыл бұрын
nvmffs i totally agree. Any back exercise you do shouldn’t bang your real delts up at all, but it does use them more then pushing movements would, so it makes sense to hit them on back day imo. I use a push/pull/legs split though. It would make more sense to do them on shoulder day if you don’t do push/pull/legs

Hey Ryan, I just wanted to share with you and everyone else how one little tip from this video changed so much for me. Over the years I have always struggled with any lat related exercises, I never seemed to be able to hit them and get them engaged, never seemed to be able to get a pump. I was always following so called proper form and arching my back etc and get t no where, after watching his video I was encouraged to think bollocks to form and just find the engagement. Starting with a bent over row I also arched over forward more cobra style and found that I could engage my lats, as I got better at it they have started to grow una way I have never had before. And now I can flex and twitch them at random. That one peace of advice gave me the confidence to explore the mind muscle connection, to find it and develop it. Just wanted to say thank you and encourage others to give it a go. This has also helped me explore the connection for other muscles too. Thank you 😊💪

Ryan By far gives the best advice out there, not in it for himself or to sell anything he's here to help others and that's how we all should be. Excellent

This is my first comment here. You are really good at giving a lot of great information in a short period of time, even for someone who knows the anatomy pretty well. No B.S., no fluff, just hard work AND good form in the gym. Thanks for all that you do, Ryan.

Just discovered these vids and I love them! I tried that first exercise, the cable "pullover" with close grip handle, MAN that was the best engagement I have gotten in my lats!! Thanks for all the tips.,they have gotten me more focused on a slight plateau I have reached the last couple of week in the gym (same routine fatigue).

Love your channel and your thought process. We are only limited by our imagination in coming up with new ways and angles to engage the muscle. Thank you for all your content.

Great video. Straight to the point. Sick of the 10-15 min videos of people who just love to hear their own voice, talking shit for most of their videos. Good work
