Interesting timing. I discovered this same adapter on eBay today. Also I’ve had that exact song (Way Maker) stuck in my head all day! I’m wanting to upgrade my headunit which already has CarPlay to wireless CarPlay. I am not able to open a web browser on my headunit like you did to download something. Does that mean I am unable to use this adapter? TIA =)

did you ever find it annoying to exit Carplay to access like temp controls? Thats my biggest gripe with these, is that most of them are lacking certain controls and need to be handled on the screen.

Is the sound quality thesame as the stock because i have a scosche unit and an aftermarket stereo and my rear speakers wouldn’t work and it sucks because with the stock radio they worked.

How reliable is this product? I’m torn between using an android head unit + carlinkit or a pioneer head unit that support carplay. Android head unit seems scroll much smoother than pioneer even though pioneer is much more expensive.

@magdaleno Ovando I’m glad to help! I had to drill a hole and route the head unit’s USB cables to it. I’ll be releasing a video soon with an update on my stereo and I’ll explain how the glovebox USB is set up.

@Dawit I don’t already have any USB ports in my mid-console (I assume you mean the armrest storage box between the driver & passenger seats), so I cannot say for sure. However, if your mid-console USB ports are directly connected to the back of the touchscreen, I’d imagine they should work fine for Carlink.

Could you please tell me how fast does the start after the installation and setting is complete. I got an android stereo that comes with TLink (which is an app that runs CarPlay) but this TLink connects 6 out of 10 times and it takes about a minute tu run

Your videos are extremely helpful just got a 08 250 as my first car and I’m planning on putting in this head unit but worried that the fitment won’t be right and there will be a gap like in your other video , is it a hard process to put the sugaru and stuff on ? Thanks keep up the videos

If your dash is in good shape then I’d recommend not installing the black air vent. The gap at the top is only because I installed an 09 air vent. You can keep your 08 air vent and you won’t have a gap, it’ll just stick out about 1/8” at the bottom where it meets the stereo (there’s a short cut-scene in the stereo install video showing the lip). The Steelstik/Sugaru combo was tougher than I thought it would be. If my dash wasn’t already falling apart (it was chipping at the edges before the stereo install) then I probably would have stuck with my original air vent and just modified it (maybe use a grinding wheel to cut down on the lip and repaint it).

I've seen many bad reviews of this product. Sound becomes distorted after nine minutes. It disconnects a lot as well. Have you had these issues? I have a Lexus 2106 IS 200t.

You have to go to factory settings on the head unit and go to touch study. Then touch the command and the button and it should redirect the commands back to the buttons.

I have a similar head unit to you in my old Bmw and bought this dongle on your recommendation after seeing this video. I’ve never thanked someone on KZfaq before but this was so awesome I felt I should. Have you figured out a way of getting the voice activation button on your steering wheel to activate Siri instead? Providing you have said button that is. Mine just actuvates the phone section of the actual android unit which sucks as it’s obviously not connected to anything and is rubbish

You left out the bit where your head unit needs to run on Android. My Kenwood DMX8019s runs a seperate Kenwood OS so this device won't work.

You only need WiFi to install the app onto your head unit. Once installed, you’re good to go, no WiFi needed

The “wince” download is for head units running Windows CE & that’s the majority of most 1st party infotainment (many not so much in the last 5a+ years) .. However I’m pretty sure for obvious reasons you can’t just install whatever you want
