Great teaching video! Just to spill my thoughts....Im not sure if someone without a trainer should do this. This particular dog here has a very good reaction to pressure. Not all dogs are like that. That collar conditioning takes experienced skill in order for the dog to not negatively associate the collar stim with the recall command and then want to actively avoid you. Gotta have the know how when to apply stim pressure. A novice doesn't have this timing or expertise of when to maybe not use stim pressure. It's like putting a new driver in a stick shift car. They're not going to have that synchronized feel at first. Learning how to apply collar stim with a trainer supervising, the collar conditioning can be effectively trained. I'd have a novice amateur probably not use the collar stim except for enforcement from those outright drive by distractions. We know that means the dog is doing their own thing there, paying zip zilch adherence to you. Turn that pressure on and get that pup to beeline to you in moments like that. Anyway just my thoughts. I appreciate your training videos. Just so I understand, are you stimulating the dog with gradual increases of vibration or shock in this video? I’m wanting to train my own pup and want to do it right.

Thank you so much for you videos! My pup (11 month now) does this great when he’s on a lead or we’re in the house/backyard and there are no distractions, but as soon as we’re anywhere else where there are better smells, he doesn’t even turn his head when I call his name, even when I apply stimulation. We have a Garmin Pro 550, and 4 is his usual low level stimulation. I’ve had it all the way up to 7 (max on my collar) and I still get no response if he’d rather continue sniffing that tree over there. Any suggestions for transitioning from doing well during training sessions to taking that skill into the field? It’s like when we’re in training mode he’s perfect, but otherwise he couldn’t care less.

Would you recommend waiting until 7 roughly 7 months to start collar conditioning?

When you do your "5 days" or however many sessions of collar conditioning you are doing, is that the only training the dog gets or are you still doing other drills with the dog in the meantime?
