Here is how to make your dog howl, featuring my Belgian Sheep Dog (Groenendael) Nanook.
You might need to start out higher and lower your howl until you hit the right tone.
Once you hit the proper tone the dog will be unable to resist howling back. It is a biological response and they cannot resist it.

aliceprobably you need to get to the right tone in your voice. :-) They seem to howl at certian notes. So you can start higher and lower your howl down until they decdied to howl back. If I do not get to the right note my dog will not do it either.

My dog sounds EXACTLY like this. I like to go to bed with the TV on. One night I went to bed watch Dracula. I feel asleep about halfway through (the movie is almost 3 hours long!) but was startled awake by my dog howling at the top of his lungs (he sleeps on the bed)! Turns out that there is a part in the movie where there are wolves howling and it must have triggered him to join in. Needless to say, after my heart was racing at that point, I didnt get much sleep that night.

Haha! my most recent male Belgian howled every time the fire trucks ran. One of my female Belgians sounded like a coyote when she howled. I could easily get her going but stopping her was a different matter! Her daughter never howled and rarely barked. I miss them all.
