Today we are micro-grafting Lophophora williamsii and Fricii seedlings. They will be my mother plants to create true to type seeds for me. The graft stock we chose is pereskiopsis as it is the best stock for young seedlings. In this video I show how to graft Peyote or lophophora williamsii seedlings onto pereskiopsis to speed up growth. This is likely the fastest way to grow Peyote from seed to flower. I hope you find this video useful and share it with interested persons. You'll also learn what tools you require.

Try carefully snapping the double edge razor blade into two so you only have one edge to worry about.

It looks like I would snag the root stock and send the loph flying across the room if I tried that. Very good dexterity

I cut those clips out! 🤣 in seriousness, it definitely is something that you get better at with practice. On my first attempt years ago. I had tried to graft 20 seedlings. Of those only 2 grew. The nerves and inexperience made bad results but each time after it got better and better! I encourage you to try. Thanks watching and I hope to chat with you again!

You don’t apply any pressure to the scion? I noticed some people don’t do that with seedlings, why is that?
@WillsCactusGarden
@WillsCactusGarden 9 ай бұрын
Pereskiopsis takes easy and requires no pressure, you just need to make sure there is no air bubble. So I do press down with my razor initially

Do you immediately place the grafted plants under light? If not how long do you wait to re introduce them?

So I have some pereskiopsis and loph Willi I am preparing for making some grafts, I nursed the pereskiopsis back to health, they were pretty neglected when I got them , a week ago they were all looking really great and ready to be grafted onto. But I didn't have all the supplies I needed to follow through. No I have all the supplies but I'm noticing that the bottom leaves on the pere are yellowing, and pretty fast. A little bit more each day.. working up towards the top. I guess my question is, is this yellowing normal? Should I be concerned about it? I see some of your pere also have yellow leaves and you still graft to them. Should I just ignore the yellowing? Also is there a way to stop it from progressing further up the plants, I was feeling really good about them having all great looking green leaves and now I'm a bit confused and concerned about them. Please anyone who has knowledge, help if you can . Open to all and any suggestions. I just want this to work ya know. Thanks I. Advance, I hope someone sees this.

Hi, the yellowing of the leaves is normal. Pereskiopsis is a cactus that likes to stay wet and rarely dies from rot. When they get a pause in watering (which is what we want to do for grafting) They will use up moisture from the leaves and shed the leaves. After grafting you leave it for a few days for the grafts to connect then you begin watering them. To keep the leaves green long term you do not want to let these plants get bone dry for extended periods of time. Unless wintering of course.
