Being 50 and working on my last subject for my GED, which is math. I Literally just got out of my zoom meeting and wanted to relax with youtube lol. That being said, My teacher had mentioned within the next couple of weeks we would be getting into Parabolas(me) whattt so perfect timing!! A bit of practice and I know I can do it. Given how well you teach, God speed Josh, Thanks for what you do

Why does this work? The differences between the square numbers are the odd numbers. 0, 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, etc 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, etc

that would make the formula for that sequence : 2*nC2 + 1*nC1 + 0 = n ( n - 1 ) + n = n^2

Hi Josh - For the first value of V(y) - Why would -3 squared by +9 (Approx. 2 minutes 30 into the video)? If you could explain, that would be great. Thanks.
@ghibnkjbfkw3048
@ghibnkjbfkw3048 Жыл бұрын
When squaring numbers, the answer will always be positive no matter what, even if the number being squared is negative. I’m this case, both 3^2 and -3^2 will both equal 9. Looking at the equations may be of help in understanding this better as well. So, 3•3=9 and -3•-3=9. This allows you to see that the tule when multiplying by two negatives also applies when squaring negative numbers. I hope this helps!!

Where does the formula -b/2a come from? Was this just an arbitrary equation that would be provided in the question?

It’s just a formula that’s always been used to find x in standard form quadratic equations

It's the"front end" of the quadratic formula ... the rest (the part in the radical) can be rearranged to find y like this: c - b^2/4a

if you differentiate w.r.t. x the equation of parabola f(x) and lets say the diff. function is f`(x)... this f`(x) shows the change in Y w.r.t. the change in X. so basically it shows the slope of tangent drawn at any arbitrary point to the equation f(x).. we do one simple operation f`(x)=0 because this means the slope of tangent to a specific point(we are about to find it) of that parabola is zero and we know that slope equals zero for horizontal lines. again slope is the change in Y w.r.t. the change in X (in very basic analogy it is ΔY/ΔX which can be written as tanθ, where θ is the angle made by any tangent with the +ve X-Axis) and when line is horizontal it means it makes 0 degrees angle with X axis so tan(0)=0 ..... and tanθ=ΔY/ΔX=change in Y w.r.t. the change in X = f`(x)=0 (for now)... now if you look at the base of the parabola you can easily see that tangent to that point is horizontal so by doing the operation f`(x)=0 we can solve it and can find x for the base of parabola... which comes to be -b/2a... and it is very important for a vertical parabola so we remember it

That's not the easiest way, there's way simpler, no steps, just simple math we just start with a normalised 0 for pos, pos1 should equal this plus this / 3, pos2 should equal 1 - this position, now we multiply by width and height, finally we offset all positions by the vertex

@@novalozano7520 sorry I don't, I just randomly watch math vids at leasure, I don't generally record their locations, anyways some of the terms I remember off hand that may be what you're on about (not sure since you didn't specify what confused you) are below with my understanding of them: vector: set of up to 3 positions (for x, y & z axis) with a 4th number for something else, I think it's just matrix math (I'm no expert) matrix: set of up to 4 vectors (I believe the purpose of a matrix is for rotation) normalisation: the act of dividing 1 by N, this gives a value between 0 & 1 which is the equivalent of a percentage, just in a form that is easier for math operations parabola: appears to be just a curve, perhaps a subclass of curves
