If you have a manual you can do what he manual states. It's more important to do the greasing than the type grease. We use Red Tacky. Thx

Over grease clutch bearing can cause grease to get onto clutch plate and cause clutch to slip. On any bearing if push to much grease to fast can damage seals. That is why we say for large bearings like the drum can handle 6-8 shots of grease because they are large bearings. Smaller bearings like feed roller are often already pushing old grease out with one shot. If you can see the bearing when you see grease pushing out it is good, time to stop. To continue could damage bearing seals. If cannot see the bearing just do within reason. One of the keys to grease is to grease frequently, not to wait a long time then grease heavily. Chippers should be greased daily except the clutch bearings which require very little grease. Most machines will have markings to tell you if you look or consult the owners manual.

@@chipperllctrailersandequip4214 thanks for the fast reply. Yeah I was greasing our bc1000 Vermeer cutter drum bearing and the chart shows “purge” for no of shots. I don’t want to over grease it.

@@jaydandale2245 Yep, purge means go till you see grease coming out. That is the best way but sometimes you can's see the bearing to know when to stop.

Some MFG's specify a type of grease. Contact Vermeer to see if they have a specific. Being in the rental business for years we use a high tack grease. It's normally designated by being red or blue. The main thing is keep it greased with some kind of grease.
