How to Grease Joints with no grease fittings.
If you need to grease a ball joint or tie-rod end and it has no grease fitting, there is a way to grease the non-greaseable joints. What to use is a needle adapter on the grease gum. The needle adapter can get grease into almost any area that a typical grease gun can not reach. Just simply insert the needle adapter under the grease boot and fill the grease boot with grease. The main reason OEM ball joints and tie rod ends fail is because they are permanently greased from the factory and there is no way to add grease if they get dry of grease. Using a needle adapter on a grease gun will enable you to grease those supposedly permanently greased joints that do not have grease (zerk) fittings installed.
Grease,grease a ball joint or tie-rod end,needle adapter on a grease gun,add grease,car repair,car maintenance,Grease Fitting,grease a ball joint or tie-rod end and it has no grease fitting,fix your your car,make your car last,avoid unnecessary car repairs

That tecnique was done once to my car in Mexico i asked for a grease service then i saw the guy with that needle extension on the greaser gun I was about to cancel the service but decided to first watch him, which obviously turn out to be a very good technique. Considering some parts dont have the zert fittings. Good video this type of info is very much appreciated so to stop buying auto parts that are not supposed to wear out that fast, but sadly designed that way on purpose.

people need to wake up and realize that mechanics are seen with bad eyes because 1) they may not be honest and want more money for something thats easily repaired 2) auto industries are making cars with more tech. for more money and less diyers to do it themselves. i feel i cant enjoy newer cars without feeling like itll cost more to fix

To protect and add longer life to your rubber C.V.,tie rod boots, apply vegetable oil to the surface. It is petrolium free and won't rot the rubber,and,keeps them pliable in very cold climate.I'm in Canada,and it works great.My car is 13 yrs. old + all original rubber is intact.

Great video. I had ordered a fancy, expensive grease fitting online, and the design was so poor, you couldn't grease any lawn equipment or any Zerk fittings in tight places. Returned it; then found out that normal fittings were indeed adjustable, and ordered a pair of two new regular fittings for my pair of twenty-year-old grease guns, which now fit perfectly on any Zerk fitting. I found out about the adjustability of regular fittings about a year ago, but wish I'd known decades ago. Had the needle sitting in my tool cabinet - now I know how to use it on some clicking CV joints. Thanks again for your tips.

The seals on the sides of "sealed bearings" can be removed easily with a tiny screw driver. They pop right out and you can grease the bearing, then snap the seals back in place. Found this out when puncturing one with that needle grease gun tool. The seal popped right out!

I got a 98 Mustang GT and it has no grease zerts on the front end . so after watching your vid I had the idea to use a syringe on the closed rubber boots and etc' . I had some laying around the shed from giving my dogs there shots . it worked like a charm . I just took off the metal tip than shot grease into it from the grease gun . I know this comment is realy long but thank you for getting me started anyway .

If you are going to add grease to ball joints or steering rods, separate the Morris taper, fill the inside of the boot, reassemble. The grease will work its way where it needs to go over time. If you pierce the boot, you are asking for trouble allowing water to enter and rust the joint.. Dissimilar materials such as rubber/steel do not need lubrication but a little silicon spray can help.

The hole from the needle is a lot smaller than the weep hole on the rubber boot of greasable fittings. You can also re-seal the pin hole. But with marine-grade grease , it will last a lot of years anyway.

I wouldn't call the grease needle a trick since that's what it's designed for, but the trick may be knowing which type of grease to use. Older sintered bearing ball joints and tie rod ends usually had a factory load of lithium grease and should be relubed with moly fortified lithium grease. Same for metal on metal wheel bearings. Sealed for life bearing on the other hand, often use a plastic (polymer) bearing and should have thick silicone grease added - as thick as will pump through the needle. Any rubber bushings on suspension should also have silicone grease though it doesn't need to be as viscous as that put in socket-joint construction bearings.

He said that one part didn't have a zerk fitting and it's right there sticking out of the bottom.It's around 3:20, looks like the pittman arm. There's many things you can put on a rubber bushing to quiet it down. Most will cause it to swell up and then start coming apart. So you're actually shortening it's life in the long run. It's not that hard to drill and tap them IF you can get access to that spot.

On Lincoln LS steering joints the rubber is held down with a split ring on the large part of the rubber boot. You could prob slide the grease hypo in the other end of the joint if you can remove the castellated nut, slap the hole where the threaded part of the ball joint is held by the nut. Then slide in grease and not make any holes to plug up. It is just hard to take off the shaft when an interference fit and tapered area on the shaft is present.

I actually got a pointer from a friend who I'll be honest does the illegal shroom. he says that some people that grow shrooms use the red RTV silicone gasket on holes in the top of cans to make a refillable Port that they can inject spores through and is sterile. you'll need to let it sit for 24 hours just a really make sure it's dried and then you got a red spot that you know is the injection point and it reseals. These rumors put these cans multiple times through pressure cookers and growing Chambers even people who grow normal mushrooms like oysters and such will use these from time to time. I've been thinking of using it myself whenever making mixtures and Labs that way we don't have to buy more expensive equipment for mixtures that just don't need dust getting into them. so take tips from the schirmer's and use that red RTV silicone sealer. I think there's also a copper looking one that should pose to be a hundred degrees higher and temperature that at all tolerate but it's something like over 700 degrees Fahrenheit

Sway bar and leaf spring bushings should not be greased unless they are polyurethane, and in that case, a special grease must be used - silicone based, I believe. Rubber bushings should be left DRY. They rely on twisting with the metal, unlike a polyurethane bushing, which relies on the bar sliding inside. This is why rubber should not be lubed - and besides, certain greases can increase the rate at which the rubber degrades, as well.

+Blaine Bugaski I use Teflon bearing grease to clean my tire side wall. Then wipe off grease and apply tire shine. Bridgestone REVO A/T lots of dry rot cracking going on. Is it the result of the grease? Age 9 years, or not driving for months at a time?
@Guillotines_For_Globalists
@Guillotines_For_Globalists 8 жыл бұрын
I don't know, is it just cracking on the side where you have applied the grease and tire shine, or is it cracking on both sides? It's hard to say for sure. If you drive a lot or park outside it is likely that they will crack sooner. Too many variables to say for sure. But I do know that certain petroleum based greases can degrade polyurethane. I'm not sure about rubber, because rubber itself is petroleum based as well. When I was younger I used to go nuts with the tire shine. Well, maybe not nuts, but I really liked the way it looked. The same goes for the dashboard and plastics/vinyls in the interior. Now I don't use any shiners at all, anywhere. I just clean, dust, wash, etc. Keeping it simple for the sake of longevity.

+Blaine Bugaski Thanks 4 the advice. The outside cracked. The inward side is great. Treads are great / not cracking except one tire: that I ran deflated for about 300 miles on day. The set may have began dry rotting prior to purchasing the the grease. And I never took care of them until I noticed the damage. Last, I had the front remounted with the White letters Out. Still need to do the rears. Looks a lot better now. Have 24k miles on the tires since 2008.

Well the insides would still get much less UV radiation than the outsides so even then it is hard to judge if your grease had any effect at all. But I do know that it can affect the natural oils of the rubber and now they secrete to the surface in order to keep the rubber "moist" with its own juice.

Awesome video. One question that came up is how do you know its actually high quality Vs. Low quality? I saw on youtube the video of the man going around and stealing the burger restaurant grease. Is this grease from cooking animal meat the same grease we know and love and inject into our rubber boots and hard to penetrate polyurethane bushings? I know with one. Bought from NAPA today, The white bottle that reminds me of the hair gel. Engine and transmission rebuild grease. My guess is the hottest temperatures reached in automobile is somewhere inside the engine? Do you know what the hottest temperature ever reached inside an engine of a car was ever recorded? With the OBD-II to USB interface & laptop or some USB Active I/O serial interface, its actually easy to configure the computer to display a screen, or even create a log file of your test drives for client vehicles. Today, I was assisting with a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid that the owner did not take care of well. First issue was car would not boot on. Starting with battery, I logged my car's off volts, and the battery they had for the car. First give away: their battery did not reach double digits. :(. Honda provides the 10 year battery for purchasing from the dealership. Don't quote me on this, but I think they actually pro-rate the price of the replacement even if the battery fails to perform as intended. Anyway, I'm all about asking the questions and curved syringe tips. I can't wait to find one so I can stick it into all my rubber suspension boots. They are making some great noises.

Normally, rubber vibration mounts, as in rubber, don't like petroleum... grease should go on metal-metal? No? I hear some "Deliverance" in this.

+Eric Chun - FYI.... Some Ball Joints and Tie Rods DO NOT have the plugs in them. Some Cars / Trucks OEM Parts DO NOT have them on there. Also, when you buy CHEAP PARTS... They don't have them on there either. In the end, it's all depend! Also, some that do... Have you ever open them plugs??? Rust as hell and good luck finding the hole.... LOL

I wouldn't be putting grease in those spring bushings and such. There is no moving parts, just the twisting of the rubber.

I'm just curious but when joints that don't have grease fitting typically last longer and when they actually need grease it's time to replace them so why wouldn't you just replace them. I personally am a fan of non greaseable parts because I never know how often to grease them. A lot of people say every 3 months some say every 6mo some once a year and some once every 2 years. Why do they need so much grease lol. I've had parts on my vehicles for 10 plus years that still perform like they should which is my monies worth if ya ask me. 10 years maintenance free in happy lol. I can see if you only had 1 vehicle and no time maybe doing something to quiet it down until you can get to it but still. I just found out recently a shop put an aftermarket part on my vehicle with a zirk fitting and I'm pissed. I had it to purchase a fitting for my grease gun because there wasn't any room to grease the stupid thing.

If you grease them right, the joint will virtually never wear out. Part of the reason they went to grease-less joints is because some mechanics are idiots and they over-grease and destroy seals. The other reason, is a new car sales-pitch that says that the maintenance costs are lower due to not having to grease fittings. New car manufacturers pull that stunt also, when the recommend long intervals between oil changes.

Anywhere there are rubber against metal there’s not supposed to have grease the grease will soften the rubber and u will have a worse problem these needles are made for c v joints or ball joints that don’t have a grease fittings

that isn't a zerk in the bottom of that joint? I didn't know about the adjustable end either, I knew they turned.

If your regreaseing or adding grease to a new part make sure to remove as much of the original grease as possible because its bad to mix different types of grease. Could end up worse than just leaving it alone.

Isn't this just filling up the boot not where the parts are rubbing against eachother

on permanent lubed ball joints and tie rod ends, there is no grease ways to permitting tha grease to make its way around the ball so usually, a grease fitting is not the answer. Usually, I release the mounting stem and I insert the injector needle between the them and the boot so I don't make damage to the boot. Usually, I use a moly type grease as usually, the original fill is made with this type of grease.

Buy fittings or replacement parts with fittings. Using a needle is some times a last resort but only to get the grease in a fitting you can't get a Grease gun connector on. There is no simple fix like you suggest to properly do the job.
