Brushing is not a chore, it is a show of affection to your dog and it is taking care of the health of your dog. Getting dead hair out really makes them happy and more relaxed. My dog loves a brushing at bedtime, he sleeps like a log after. No licking or anything.. just relaxed sleep.

What sweet little boy. I love Maltese's so much. Mine was almost 17 when she passed 2 years ago and her little tail used to wag just like this little guy. They are such special little dogs.

I have a Maltese puppy and I have to brush her hair twice a day, clean her face and eyes at least three times a day. It is easy to keep her free of tangles and free of eye stains in less than 5 minutes of time. I also brush her teeth twice a day. Maintenance is the key to success. It takes 5 minutes, 3 times a day. I have a sweet and amazing puppy; Maltese puppies are the best.

We consider him the perfect pet. He knows which family member to go to when he wants to cuddle or to play. He loves to play rough but also loves to be held and snuggled. He is really smart. He understands my commands - especially "no barking" even when other dogs are raising a fuss when we walk by. He loves to perform his tricks (roll over, sit, shake, etc) for a treat. Love him so much.

You made this little fella look so much lighter and more comfortable, and you did it so quickly so he didn't have to suffer the long discomfort of being combed through. You make it look so easy, and indeed it is easier than going for the brush out, for both the groomer and dog, as you say in the video. I like the way you use your clippers mainly, rather than your scissors. I tend to use my scissors which is much more time consuming - so it's good to see how I can do things differently. He looked so cute and pleased with himself when you'd finished. Thanks for the tutorial.

Growing up, we had 5 dogs, one of them was a Maltese. My parents got him when I was 2 years old. He was the sweetest most adorable dog we ever had and when he passed away at 16 years old, it took years for me to recover from the loss. I still miss him dearly, we had him for so long, I never realised he was going die someday. A part of me died that day and I ve not had a dog ever since.

I’m so so sorry 😢 we lost our little Maltese after about 15 yrs too… my son was beside himself… through himself on the floor in a fit of sorrow !!! It was just agonizing for us all… our doggies are really our family !!! Again I’m sorry and stay strong with your beautiful memories of your doggie ❤❤❤❤

I totally agree. I have a Cavalier King Charles. Her ears get a mat from time to time. While I am in my chair and she is on my lap. I simply check her every day and get the tangle out with my fingers. I brush her every day and she is groomed every 4 weeks. You are such a kind and gentle lady. I enjoy watching you and you furry friends. Keep up the good work!

I own a Maltese and I give him muscle cuts and he looks amazing saving him the matting. These dogs are very cooperative to grooming and there is no excuse why this dog was neglected so bad. Some folks would rather spend 10 hours looking at nonsense in their phones than providing care to others and even themselves.

My big old Bashaussie used to mat up so I'd brush him and cut the mats off. He literally pranced on our daily walk when he knew his fur was gorgeous, which was so cute and funny in such a large dog.

You do great job. I hope the owner did get mad and understood the needs of his loving dog. We may want or have something in mind for put loving pets but you’re the professionals and we have to understand that sometimes what we want for our four legged kids is not always the best choice. Thank you for your honesty and for looking out for our four legged kids.

I have a maltese his name is Cloud. He hates to be brushed so he always gets a puppy cut. For his tear stains I use angel eyes powder in his food. You are so kind and gentle with all the animals in your care. Thank you for that. This is truly your calling!

I have a Maltese! And it’s not that hard people! Omg I cried looking at the eyes and fur of this pup. My little one has her eyes wiped in the morning everyday and is groomed every time we couch! Just keep a brush nearby! LOVE YOUR DOG AS MUCH AS THEY LOVE YOU! I’d be furious at the owner!

Hello I'd love some advice on my maltepoo. Shes 6 yrs old n when I got her she was very matted n her previous mom neglected her n she was so under weight and would only hide under my bed n so today she'd happy has gained her weight back. My question is how can I figure out what type of dog food to feed her, or one that she'll like. What type of brush is best to use for grooming.

Josie C I feed my Maltipoo: Nature Balance’s Duck and Potato kibbles. Slicker brush is best for grooming.

Very well behaved dog!!! I am forced to try to groom my dog myself because my dog is now too frail to get shots and thus some groomers won't take him anymore. Your videos are helpful for me to do it safely.

Greetings from Norway. So sweet and good maltese. Remind me of my five malteses. I groom my dogs myself and they are so easy to groom, just like him. But I get sad to see that some people don't get that they need to brush these types of dogs. I totaly understand that you shave him down.

Mrs. Waffle personally, I would rather see these people getting a short haired dog if they are not willing to put the time and energy to brush a super fluffy dog at least a couple of times a week.

I have a Maltese and I know that if you want their hair long you HAVE to make a commitment to brush everyday. I tried but it gets out of hand quickly and then brushing is no fun for them. Mine gets a summer cut, she is happy and I don’t miss her long hair! When the hair is matted it hurts the dog! It’s sad!😓

Yes the maltese skin is really very delicate .. so even small mats which form daily on their legs esp hurt when being brushed.. so i now plan to.spare my baby Ivy and have her get a close summer cut every time .. it is too painful for her if i keep growing her hair for my vanity.. and dematting daily ..

I inherited my mother’s 15 year old deaf Maltese who is difficult to groom. I do her myself as she doesn’t tolerate the groomer well. Being deaf, I can’t talk to her to calm or correct her when she is stressed or getting bites, I can only use touch.

I feel that anyone that wants a dog that requires brushing to keep the long hair from getting matted, this dog needed a bath, dirty face, inside ears, the groomer did a good job on this Maltese, but the owner needs to do a better job of keeping him brushed and clean.

Maltese are my favorite...but I don’t have one. I have a Maltipoo whom I adore. I love the way you work and the love you show the doggies. I’m trying to cut my dogs hair because of a health problem I have I often had to cancel and I didn’t want to do this to my sweet groomer any more. My biggest problems are the feet and legs. Go figure! I’ve learned so much from you. My babies are just pets, not show dogs, so as long as they are clean and the sanitary they suit me. Both of my dogs love to be brushed...it’s like “loving” to them. My other dog is a chihuahua terrier mix who was being abused. It got her when she was 4 months, 4 lbs. she is a short haired little thing but she looks so sweet all groomed up! You Rock DeDe! Wish this Maltese was mine. They are so expensive. Love how you apologized to the dog. "Hope you dont get upset with all we have to do today." Every dog I have had the pleasure of living with has been long haired. I knew what I was getting in to as far as daily grooming and even when life gave me those hard times, emotional and physical I have kept my dogs in good condition and never had them shaved down. Truly, I don't think people understand what commitment they need to make if they choose a long haired breed.

I use a solid metal comb. My dog's groomer ordered a bunch online for her clients who needed them because they don't sell them in our area. They work a treat.

had a Maltese for 13 plus years and they mat up quick, I remember our other dog was short haired red Dachshund and she was so easy. Maltese have that soft silky hair that is extremely hard to keep up, for some years we just kept her short and a sweater on her in the winter.

She has to be gentle setting blow dried after a bath and brushed every 2-3 days.

Great job! Good info! My dog hates to be brushed and hates to be groomed so it’s very hard & I keep her hair very short. I like it short it’s easy to manage and she mostly wears clothes so it’s a really cute cut.

You did good. Only thing I have to said is that you should change your blades more often. You take to long to change them. And I don't even see you checking the temperature. Those things can get hot quickly.

I'm sorry, how was he not super grateful for the fantastic job she did? He was just like "well, as long as.." excuse you??? DO YOUR JOB and brush your dog if you don't want to see your dog shaved like that. Its not how good the dog looks, its about his health and comfortability. If he has grass, food, pee, poop, seeds and all kinds of stuff in the hair YOU HAVE TO SHAVE IT. Imagine your hair covered in gum and then try to brush it all out for hours. No thank you, shave it all off cause that gum ain't coming out by just brushing.......brush your dog guys.

I think they look great shaven down. It's a great way to tidy his fur. You are right though, he absolutely should be getting a good brush down daily. He probably felt like a million dollars after Dede shot the works for him. She is so cool to watch with the transformation she does.

If i pay someone to brush the gum out of my hair i expect them to stay as long as it needs without shaving my head. If i wanted to shave it all i would have done it myself at home thank you very much. For dogs it's a little different, this pet owners are to blame because they don't care enough for their dog to brush it but if weren't the case i don't like how she just shave it all without even trying to save the hair length, any dog she has she shave it all

@@areswalker5647 It's not just a question of how long it takes. De-matting is *painful* for the animal. If the owner's already too lazy or incompetent to brush it, why would any compassionate goomer leave long hair just to get tangled again?

I swear...pple take better care and maintenance of their cars then their own dogs. I am a groomer also, when I am brought a dog severely matted such as this and the owner asks me make it look like a Teddy Bear, or cute, or why do you have to shave him down so short, I feel like screaming: because you are an idiot and I can't make stupid look cute!

What kind of vet does surgery on a dog that is so matted? If it were me I definitely would council pet parents about grooming before and after surgery.

I have a question i am new to the Andis clippers 5 speed i have the same kind as you have. i have yorkies and when i am having them the clipper works great about 4 strokes down the body then the clipper then starts to pull the hair. And they have no nots i brush daily. So wondering if my clipper is malfunction. It is still pretty new and new blades. Could you suggest what to check please and thank you for your time 😊

Brush hairs off blade often and use cooling spray to lubricate. Wipe off any excess oil before using again on pet. Use the little brush to clean off hair every so often while clipping. Your comment was over a year ago so I'm very curious how your at-home grooming is working for you.

You did awesome! He seemed scared but he got some assurance from you. That made it better for him. They know. They feel it. Even with that hyper Ceasar. You did a great job. Accidents do happen nobody is perfect. No groomer wants to hurt their client.

What clippers do you recommend that I use for My maltese? Please let me know thanks. Or if you have somewhere I can go on to by the clippers and the rounded scissors please let me know thank you great video I agree with what you said about the pain they go through when they're all matted that's horrible. NEVER MIND I LOOKED ATVLINKNYOU LEFT AT THE BOTTOM. OOPSIE LOL

I have a Maltese and I don't have trouble with matting. I use Wen shampoo for dogs. Been using it for years. No mats. Smells good. It controls hot spots. I don't have to brush her everyday. Its expensive but worth it. I use Wens shampoo for adults. Great.

You do such a fantastic job on all the dogs. I wished you were here in Richmond Virginia. Question - regarding the attachments to the clippers, which number cuts the shortest and which is used to leave the hair longer. Thanks in advance

Usually, the higher the number the closer the cut.

this dog was neglected! maybe they feed and walk him, but that's definitely not enough when you decide to have a dog, especially with long fur!

What do you recommend to brush them with daily..? My Maltese hates to be brushed and he gets so matted... I would like to start grooming him at home

He is as sweet and gentle as my Meeka. Meeka had a Heart murmur due to an enlarged heart. We miss him so much.

DeeDee, every, every time I watch your videos on Maltese or any long haired breed, it breaks my heart. 😢I have a Maltese/ Silk terrier mix and brushing, brushing, brushing is important.
