We just tiled a bath in an old house. We just couldn't make all of them perfectly flat, no matter how careful we were. I thought we were just bad at it. This makes me feel much better, and now I know how to compensate with grout. Thank you very much!

This helped me out tremendously! I was actually viewing videos on how to grout tiles, when I found this one, just to make sure I'm doing it right. My bathroom floor definately has uneven tiles, (they seemed ok the night before!). Anyways I'm no tile guy but I can't afford for someone to come do it, so I dove in, It's ok. I can live with how they are, but this video will help to make my uneven tiles, hopefully, not so noticeable! Thank You!!

This was sooo helpful. I was doing it opposite and making the grout slope up and getting those ugly grout lines. Then since the grout was high it kept cracking. I'm trying it your way and am going to try that Spectralock 1 premixed grout that says it performs like epoxy grout. Its $94 but I figure its worth it to re grout my kitchen if i don't have to do mess cracking and staining grout again.

Thanks big time! My home is 5 years old and the tile was never laid the way it should have been. Its a wood looking Porcelain Tile and it drives me nuts when I try to scoot my chair from under our table, or when I walk across our room and my foot catches the edge of one of the tile snd I start to trip. Both my wife and I are in our 70’s and have fallen many times.

My builder messed up the tiling in my shower room, hopefully I can make it better after watching this video

I had an even surface, but I applied the concrete adhesive unevenly so it is not leveled. I am putting ceramic tiles on the cement pavers for the hearth of the wood stove.

I assume the hardwood ceramic tile you're speaking of is the 6" x 24" hand scraped looking stuff? If it is, that stuff is factory warped to resemble actual old wood flooring. No matter who lays it for you, there will always be high spots and uneven lines through the room.

Coolest thing ever

There are some decent vinyl flooring options which are ideal for uneven floors as it bends and flexes. Worse case re-glue if lifts a little over time. Cheap contractors, get what you pay for? Not true where I live. Best way is to get a referral from another trusted tradsperson or trusted friend. Yes, you should also watch them work. I had flooring laid and they didn't want to level the floor properly, as agreed. It was "too hard". Quick phone call to boss sorted this out AND saved me money as I didn't need the wrong size underfloor they brought.

Mixing grout

I got a house built 9 months ago and the tile was laid so uneven, I have areas where the grout was laid terrible and looks sloppy. It really sucks. I have a warranty still but when they came to "fix" the tiles they look even worse now. Anyone know what I can do?? Thanks

gotta let it dry a little bit. Then you can shape it like clay with a real dry sponge. wipe it up the hill, never the length of the joint. Tile council of amerika says that you can have high tiles the thickness of a dime, and it's a good acceptable job in somebody elses house'

Tile is popping up

Just did my first tiling jobs, and 3 of my tiles are uneven

I just had someone lay gray wood look porcelain tiles in my family room and he left some edges high enough to catch any thing sliding over it. AFTER the job was done my guy told me not only was my floor not level, but the tiles themselves are just not even. I am in a position like Dreamscapes! Spent a good $$ on the tile only to have a poor job done. This guy told me BEFORE he started that the floor was not level and he would fix it. I could sue, but I don't have the time or any more $$ for the hassle. We did agree he'd come back and replace the tiles that are too high, but I'm afraid there might be too many to replace. I have 3 boxes left over so I do have some to use. Never TRUST someone until you see their work!!! so disappointed!!!

If I saw one of my guys doing a grout job like this I would fire there ass in a heart beat. Your not sitting down when you grout anything, I'm gotta start putting my tile work on KZfaq here soon. I've been doing tile work for 30 years and grout work, it's not done like this, Stay tuned , Paul
