Afyer eating dates, I threw the 6 seeds on a big pot where I have other palms, inside the house, and I discovered that the new palm sprouts comes from those seeds. I didn't even put soil on them or anything. Now I'm excited :)

When I was in 3rd grade I was at a playground, apparently someone dumped a dates palm previously and I found a few sprouts, so I took one home , it was the size of a pinky finger, now 16 years later it still gives sweet sweet dates, although I planted it in the wrong side of the house, the dates go dry and hollow too quickly, the best picking window is only one week and we always miss it

Thanks for the tutorial, it really works. I bought dates from the supermarket, ate the fruit and rescued the seeds. After one month in the paper towel the roots are about 2 cm long! I will plant them once I get enough pots and collect the mixture of soil that the date palm prefers.

If you cover the pots with plastic wrap (use a rubber band to hold it in place), you'll see sprouts a lot faster. Also, once spouted, remember not to water too much. They grow in hot, dry places like Arizona.

I actually got a date palm to grow from dates I purchased at a store. I lasted for over 2 years before someone asked me for a favor and I allowed them to take it. It is still going 3 years later.

I have a chili plant and a few months ago shen I ate a date, I planted it in my chili plants pot. I thought it didn’t work until a few weeks ago when I saw a weird leaf growing in the soil amongst a tomato plant that I had also planted their. I could not figure out what kind of plant It was so I googled today and found out it was a date palm:) yay

Tip, wash seed in a mix of hydrogen peroxide. Should keep any mold from forming.

I dint do this I only got the seed put it on the dirt and than I waited for about 1 moth and I saw a leaf

I planted 4 of them 3 months ago straight into a container & one of them sprouted a root,the others got eaten out by some kind of borer. It sprouted a root after about a month of being planted & I thought that it may have died,it had a green tinge on the root so I left it alone. What do you know ? This morning I checked it & a white shoot has emerged from the mix,I googled it up & what I've found out is that the root naturally point to the direction that it detects moisture then burrows into the mix that its planted in. So,a shoot has "teed off" from the taproot which should send off green leaves soon,I think that it has taken that long because the weather has cooled down since April,note that I read that it can take up to 100 days for them to sprout,I have placed them in the sun outdoors. I have 4 more planted but I'm not sure if the cooler winter temperatures will affect their germination because they are forecasting a temperature range of 16-19°C during the day & down to 4-5°C overnight. Note the way to plant them straight into a container is to place the blunt end into the mix then have the sharp end poking out so the top half remains dry.

Good advice here: pick the ripe dates and put them in the freezer and unfreeze them before eating them, the flesh becomes juicy and the skin peels off easy, and you won't taste the bitterness if there was any before the freezing

But in some places like Middle East they don’t planting the seeds because it takes too much time and you don’t know if they will be males or females so they plants the small palms that they grow up around the mother palm so when it become ready they cut it from the roots and take it to another place to grow up but in the first month of the planting they die for two months or one and a new sprouts grow up

I have have done the whole seed thing and planted. Now I have one really long skinny palm about 12 inches long. It is starting to sag on it's own weight so I have a few sticks for support. There are no other palm leafs yet. Wondering if this is normal or do I need to do something else to encourage growth. I am growing indoors for about 3 months now.
