These are not easy to make into bonsai and requires a lot of patience and work. Over winter a lot of branches die back, so constantly struggling to get a decent canopy. Thanks for watching and your appreciation. Best wishes Iqbal

Willow trees are a marvel of nature....they can be used to make baskets, willow canes can be used to create living fences and other living structures like gazebos and arbors. The bark was brewed into a tea and used as pain reliever by native americans. Aspirin was derived from the willow. These trees have a long and awesome history. All the way back to the ancient Druids. Interesting research.

I saw that you use Sophisticat cat litter made by Pets at Home. I live in the United States. I can’t seem to find this brand. Can you please tell me what brand would be equivalent to this brand here in the states? Or maybe what this brand of cat litter is made of? I love your videos. I’ve learned so much from watching you. I’m just getting started with rooting my Weeping Willow branch cuttings. My roots are just getting started. Thank you Sarah

@mikbonsai 15 күн бұрын
Hi Sarah, I do not know an equivalent brand in the USA. The one that I used was manufactured in the EU and made from clay which was heated to 1200C in ovens and the clay turned into solid hard particles which behaved same as lava rock. Unfortunately this make has been discontinued and am back to making my own soil mix fromdifferent ingridients.

I have 3 japanese willows, they came as rootless trunks. It's been 4 weeks and they've exploded. Im in 7b so it's too cold to put outside atm but plan to once the first frost passes. Atm they're under powerful grow lights and all my trees are thriving. The branches are roughly 10-16", trunks are only 8" and the branches are close to my grow lights. I hear these are prone to dieback and all I want is bigger trunks with more branches and ramification. Could I possibly prune a few inches?
@mikbonsai

Willows are outdoor trees and I have never brought mine indoors. Yes, there is afair amount of dieback and yes you can prune them.

Help! I got a willow bonsai (cutting) from my mother in law for Christmas and it’s dying! It was in water till it established a root system and then I transferred into a pot. It was okay for a few weeks and now all the green leaves/branches are Drooping to the point that I now have to cut them off and it’s just a stick in soil again. Can you tell me the light/water requirements it needs indoors? It’s always been indoors. Does it need humidity? Thanks in advance!!

Keep it out doors all year round. Please see all my Willow tree videos and they cover every aspect of growing them from branch cuttings,. All my trees were from one single branch and started of as sticks. You need to keep the pot in a tray filled with water and that is the only way you will grow them successfully.

Sir what is this wound padte? Plz elaborate about this
@mikbonsai
@mikbonsai 12 күн бұрын
Wound paste is putty like substance, applied to wounds left behind after removal of branches and also when there is a trunk chop. The wound paste seals the wound and prevents that area of the tree drying out. There are other alternatives such as candle wax and vaseline both do the job adeqyately. I was off YT for a few years, hence the delay in responding. I am back and making bonsai videos once again, I hope these are in improvement on my previous ones. Do watch and comment on my new videos. Please also subscribe and you will not miss any new videos. Best regards Iqbal
