My method of seeding your reef tank for growing coralline algae. This has worked for me for 2 tanks of mine. With consistent and stable water parameters, you can do this as well!

Just found this video. Live it. When u started your tank, did you immediately put corals in? What was the method because your system looked very stable. Do you have anymore videos on your system? Thanks.

once you have them, they will spread easily (at least in my case). To speed things up, I did use Continuum coralline purple cx 2x a week (the dosage instruction mention 3-4 times per week, but I ignored that and just do it 2x a week). I saw results in just a bit over 2 weeks. Now my live rocks are 2/3 covered with coralline. I keep on using the same product since I only have mushroom corals. Don't think I need other products since mushrooms are very easy to keep, and they are thriving. I change my water every two weeks, and add some zoo plankton to seawater and frozen mysis mixture for my fish food (I always make a 3 day supply and keep this mixture and the plankton bottle refrigerated). For people who have CBB in their tank, I really recommend the mysis and plankton "soup".

Great explanation and walk through of the process friend!! Does adding that calcium to the mix cause the tank params to jump pretty high?

Hey Matt, sorry I didn't response. No, theres just a momentary high and it dissipates fairly rapidly. Not to worry.

How did you get your powerhead power wire through the cap of the SW container? Previous mixing station video. I have that same top/container.

I have a question about your Odyssea Metal Halide and T-5 ballast change out. I have the same problem as I need to replace my T-5 ballast. I would like to purchase a new ballast before I take down my hood and tear it apart. You did not share any info on the tag on the the ballast as far as model number and watts? I see them on Ebay but they show different wattages. How many watts should the ballast be? I have the same exact model as yours shown. Thanks in advance. I just do about 200ml of calcium. It is the only ingredient I use. Honestly, theres no science behind it except that it's worked for my and my community around here for years.

@@bpseal That's fine Barrett. I found out the info to get one. You just go by the wattage. One T-5 bulb is 54 watts so that the one we need. I bought two of them to replace plus new bulbs. Thanks so much for the reply....Gary

Comments turned off on your mixing video. I was wondering how you do your ATO from the reservoir in your garage? It looks like you had a tube in the fresh water res but I didn’t see how you pumped it or what you used.

You can see when he records the video of his sump he’s using the Hydrofill ATO, the white tube coming out of his RO/DI container feeds that peristaltic pump just above his drain section of the sump and pumps to the drain. The Hydrofill is the silver box and has 2 sensors looking at the water level, once both sensors are out of the water the peristaltic pump kicks on and pulls RODI water from his mixing station. I can’t be certain but that’s what it looks like. My question if he ever sees this is how did you hook up the DOS pumps to your Apex?? I see the power cable and a cable coming from the Aquabus on the DOS pumps but where is that cable going to? Did you run that cable all the way to your apex unit at your tank?? If so how?

HI, I just started my salt water tank 4 weeks ago. I started noticing green and brown algae growing. I just saw your video and want to grow coralline. Am I too late? Can I still do what you did, or do I have to clean the rocks? Will the coralline seed on top of the green? Thanks

Kirk, you're not too late and it will take months to grow a healthy population of coralline algae. Big thing is to keep your nutrients in check, ensure your Alk/Calc/Mag are reasonably close to target levels.

All good bud. I’m pretty sure as long as calcium level is in range or elevated in the tank you’d be fine without it. But I’m adding that calcium and I don’t recall how much you added could be insignificant your raising your calcium level as well as possibly dropping your alkalinity slightly

Hey Narto, the tank was actually sold off but it was looking pretty rad after about 3 months. I am on to my next project now! I didn't have time for two tanks tbh.

I used some reef salt instead of regular salt and my calcium level spiked to 620. My coraline is growing so slowly. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. What kind of levels do I need for other things? How much blue light? Can I do too much?

how slow is slow? it does take time to get the algae colonized and then it to take off.
