First time mushroom grower here. I probably did so much stuff wrong but here goes . After buying 1.5kg of black pearl oyster mushroom spawn, I didn’t get onto actually growing it for 2 months. It didn’t smell bad ( or a safe test to do, but I had to) . Substrate is about 50/50 hardwood fuel pellets and soya husks (soaked in hopefully correct amount of boiling water) . 1kg of substrate spilt between 2 bags . Bags were boiled with substrate in .Added equal amount spawn (750g per bag) . Just shut of the top of the bag below the filter patch with a plastic clip So… what did I do wrong? Any criticism would be greatly appreciated here! Thanks

9months late so I hope you already found the answer you supplimented the wood and hence should be sterilized and kept sterile as the added nutrients contaminates

surely, you cooled the bulk substrate after boiling the bags and before adding grain spawn.

Hey, I dont think so... I have not tried. They grow in beech pellets... so technically it should be possible, but have never seen it

Nice video, so many details. I am cultivating king oysters, them are pinning well, but they dont open the caps, they grow very fat in the base of the stem and have very tiny caps, almost like an egg. Have you seen something like this before? Can you help me?

Thanks for the great video! Do you have any air exchange to iniate pinning ? Or do you just put the colonized substrate block in the tent with the fitting humidity and temperature and no air exchanges to get high CO2 Levels ?

Hey, I open the bags when it starts pinning. If its not starting inside the bags colder environment can help.

I am having a problem pinning my king oyster. It's fully colonized with mycelium and cold shocked between 10-15 degrees, but no pinning. The grow bag closed and breathed from the filter patch. besides high humidity and cold shock, do I need to open the bag to induce pinning? Please advise how to initiate pinning after full colonization.

At what temperature is the bag stored? Maybe cutting a small hole will help with an extra oxygen boost. As it is fully colonized the risk is contamination is very low

@@HappyMushrooms The bag is stored at 22 C (max temperature). I did open the bag for fresh air but it started to turn slightly yellowish on the top and on the sides of the bag. I have also experimented with placing it in the fridge and on cooler nights (14-17C) , left it outside under a tub. Does the temperature need to be continued below 18 C or it can fluctuate? I am not sure why no pinning after a month of colonizing the bag! Again, thank you so much for replying :)

Hey thank you mate! Normally 2-3, then sometime mold appears.The second flush appears 10-14 after first harvest. Sometimes I need to re-hydrate if 2nd/3rd flush is not coming. Even had a 3rd flush 5 month after 2nd flush (I put bag outside). Unless mold appears it can make sense to keep them, maybe a few more mushrooms will show up
