Long term you will have better success with sterilized water and flat bottom containers. You should be okay with this setup for now, but flat bottom containers are just so much easier to clean. Even freshly mixed water can get some bacteria in it, depending on your mixing station, the salt you use etc. To be closer to true sterile in a home setting since few of us actually work in lab like settings I bleach my water for 12hrs in the culture container then dechlorinate for 12hrs then use. This ensures clean sterile water and my cultures have lasted years without a crash with the exception of isochrysis which is much harder to culture then the nannocholoropsis you are likely working with. Tetraselmis is another good one to try that is also easy.

Question.... so ... once a week goes by... why cant you just remove 50% from each bottle, top off with fresh salt water and add fertilizer?

Hi nice vid! I have a question about the air bubbles. How long do I run the air pump for? Do I turn off the air pump at night like I do for the lights? Please help!

I noticed the Poland spring bottles are a #1 plastic, which can leach chemicals.. I've heard #2 and #5 are better for reefing. Any thoughts on this?

#reefbum I don't want to go out and buy rigid airline tubing. Can I just use my spare rodi tubing for this? ❤ Also I was curious to why you don't use the lemonade/ Drink dispenser?

I grew phyto for a number of years, and trust me -- plastic bags are the way to go. I'd still use the bottles for rigidity, just cut the top off your water bottles and line them with 1 gallon ziploc bags. There's really no good way to sanitize the John Guest fittings... I'd just put the rigid tubing straight into the bags or bottles.

So, I have split my culture three times now and every time I start it I get dark green settling at the bottom…. Now the mixture continues to stay green and get really dark by day 7 and I still bottle it. Any idea what’s going on?
