By the way, when I was in USA for hubby work before 13 years, I didn't know what okra is in English. and I was pregnant and craving it, I remember telling a midwife “it's small green and slimy vegtable” 😁. after long search, I only found frozen never fresh.

I love what you guys are doing, And I wanted to share my story. I also am a lover of fried okra, I also love to add it into my vegetable soup I make every Winter. I Have recently discovered I love gardening But unfortunately I am going through a divorce after 21 years of marriage and at 47, I find myself in a second floor apartment. But I live by the saying "where there is a wheel there is a way." After discovering that my balcony faces in the perfect direction to get all of the morning sun II planted a garden on my 2nd floor balcony. I currently have 5 gallon buckets with sweet corn , I also have small Raised beds on wheels with Potato, Tomatoes, Okra, carrots, lettuce, green beans ,zucchini, Cricket next squash, Cantaloupe, watermelon, garlic, Bunching onions, Jalapenos, Dell peppers, Basil oregano, lavender, Spiriment and peppermint. I just wanted to share this for anyone who has a Passion for gardening but may live in a small space. If there is a will there is a way and I am living proof, praise God. Oh and most importantly it's cheaper than therapy and just as effective.

Nancy here. Thank you for watching and sharing! Sorry about your divorce, it is hard but it will get better in time. I met Hollis after I was 48 also. We both been thru heartbreak of divorce before. The best is yet to come! I prayed for man who put God 1st, gardener and fisherman. Also several other things on the list. God answered both our prayers. We pray that God bless you and your future.

Our okra is about 7 ft. tall now, and we have been harvesting nearly every day. I like to cut it in small pieces, shake it in a bag of corn meal, and freeze it. I pull it out of the freezer dip it in egg and our favorite breading, then fry it up. What a treat!

Hi. I'm a lady and Pastor of a small church. For the first time- I planted okra from seeds in pots, June 27, 19. I have 5 plants(experimenting). They are about 16 -20 inches tall (still in pots). About 8:00 tonight I took one plant outside to soil. The roots are So Many; they really surprised me. I'm in S.C. and the temp is about 90 +°. It's Sept. 6. I was worried about putting them in the ground so late, but you REMINDED me to "Give it to the Lord". So Lord - It's in Your ✋. I'll update you all on how it goes. God Bless.

Sara would slip into the bedroom extra quiet and not fully awaken me but I could feel her pulling ,crawling up the side of the bed. She would then snuggle up until I rerevived for the day. While I was getting dressed is when she would go get her vegetables gathered.

I can't help but love everything you do seems like you have a plan for everything you plant we all depend on the Lord making it do what it needs to for all of us and you and Nancy just fit together so well you're so blessed I merely jealous but I have a mighty fine faith in the world that will help me grow what I need I planted a little late but that was okay through my little mistakes I've gotten some and it's made me and my 89 year old mom very happy we had fried okra for supper tonight about a month ago we had fried green tomatoes till I thought we were just going to have too many . so keep on doing what you're doing the right way you're walking with the Lord thank you thank you thank you I'm glad we're all a big happy family take care.

Love your videos! Your garden is beautiful! I grow okra every year here in Arizona because it used to be really hard to find in stores out here; our glorious high heat and sun makes okra very happy! The one issue I frequently have is little black ants love to move into my okra patch and climb right up into the bloom area, damaging the blossoms, stunting the pods, and growing their little aphid buddies (and sometimes mealybugs) in huge numbers. Amazing how fast they can show up! I keep them down with a dish soap, gin, and water mixture when they start. This year I got to the ants first, used some boric acid baits to get rid of them. So far no critters in the okra this year! Growing Clemson Spineless and Carmine Splendor this year. Planted first week of March. Our temps finally hit the good 111 degrees F range most of last week and the okra just started busting out pods like crazy! Love it fried, raw, or pickled. My paternal Grandmother invented a casserole incorporating fried okra that the family just can't stop eating! Keep up the great videos! (BTW thanks for the idea of the heavy wire fence mounted on 4x4s for a melon trellis!! Growing San Pedros and Kharbozeh melons this year!)

Love the idea of a seed planting stick and seed tube. My back is wrecked and I have to do all my gardening myself. I think these would make life a lot easier:) I'm planting Okra in WI for the first time this year. I never really cared for it/ don't fry anything...but it's really nutritious and yes...lovely flowers. One thing I've learned from growing my own food, though, is I end up liking SO many more things than I used to because they taste better. Hands down! I'd never buy kale from a store, but I grow tons and just eat it straight out'a the garden.

Great video! My family has eaten fried okra forever! We hailed from Texas/Oklahoma/South Carolina-the South, basically-but I grew up in SoCal. Very few people here in SoCal know anything at all about okra. Better still, it’s hot as hell here in Ojai, Ca during the Summer. Growing anything, especially tomatoes, can be challenging. But okra LOVES this intense, arid heat!

I can't do it! I've tried to watch other videos, but not thrilled. Hollis and Nancy, you have been a blessing to watch. I have learned so much from watching you two, that I feel like this year I'll finally have a really good garden. Have you tried growing sweet corn? If you have is there a video somewhere about it. PLEASE!!!!!! keep making videos. I believe we are in need of getting back to creating most of our own food again to be healthier, plus I have preteen boys that I'm trying to teach these things to also. God Bless You.

+Teresa Unger thanks for watching and your sweet words of encouragement. I don't have a video on sweet corn right now. I usually grow Silver Queen every 3 years or so. We are relocating to our rural homestead this summer. I plan to grow some after I get the new garden up and running. I will make a video. I love it when children and teenagers discover their green thumb. My Daddy helped me find mine when I was 8 years old. I have many memories in my heart to this day.

Well we are from the south in Texas. Okra loves our weather clear up to December one year when I first tried to grow Texas okra. Okra is good is beef tomato soups too in winter I just add mixed veggies and potatoes and hamburger and maters and onions. Yum Yum! Forgot the onions. lol

I am so thankful for finding your videos. I am still amazed at how good you and Nancy are in producing not only in your garden but in making the videos. We love to grow okra and of course eat it. I was wondering when you planted your okra as your video was published in August. We live in Northwest Florida near the Alabama line and although we had temps last night at 29 degrees we only have potatoes in ground that was planted Feb 13, which we covered with straw. Hoping to have time to watch more of your videos before it is time to get out and do what I have been watching. I so admire how neat your gardening is and you inspire me to love and appreciate being able to garden. Thank you Nancy and Hollis. Please continue as we all need you.

+Ellara Denny Wowzers!! What a nice comment to us. So encouraging ❤️❤️❤️. As you know Okra loves the heat. I plant my okra when the soil feels warm to my bare hands which is usually in Mid May where we live in Virginia. I direct sow okra.

+Vita Williams Sorry to hear about the bores! Smart to skip them for a year or so. Okra will do well for you and it tastes great. Best of luck to you with your Okra👍
