EXCELLENT. Many videos show the only way to grow is with expensive trays. Truth is, nearly everyone already has all they need to successfully produce these sprouts/shoots. I like the way you think - providing options. Thank you. Happy to subscribe!

Hi, love your video! Should the water be tap water or distilled water?
@CiCiLi
@CiCiLi 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Tap water should be fine. That's what most people do. But if you worry about the cleanliness of your plant, you could also use spring water, which has natural minerals in it. Distilled water won't give the plant those natural minerals.

Does it matter what variety of plant these seeds come from? Traditionally, Chinese use snow pea shoots in the sauteed dish. I was wondering if other varieties such as snap pea, would taste the same.

Thank you for this video! I've done this before (well my mom started it and gave them to me halfway through the growing phase to finish growing). I'm starting this myself from scratch for the first time, and during the soaking it was already starting to smell bad, but now that it's sprouting in the tray it smells really bad. I don't remember it being like this before. On day 2 I went through every pea and threw out any that were mushy, but it still smells pretty bad (probably a few more went mushy but I don't have the patience to sort through every pea again). Has this happened to you before, any advice?

Thanks for the question! I'm wondering if the weather there might be too hot and humid. The perfect temperature for growing pea shoots is around 70 degrees F. I hope it works out for you! ☺️
@optobeagle
@optobeagle Жыл бұрын
@@CiCiLi Thank you for replying so quickly! Hmm interesting! It is generally around 70-75F here and not too humid (California). Maybe I had a bad batch of peas. Some of them sprouted but most did not, so I'll try to order a new bag!
@optobeagle
@optobeagle Жыл бұрын
It was the bag of seeds (avoid Iberia brand!) - I bought instead from True Leaf Market this time and it turned out perfectly! Yay!! When I stir-fried the peashoots though, when I ate them the stems seemed kind of hard and got stuck in my teeth a lot. Did I stir-fry them too long, or not long enough? Or maybe I harvested the peashoots too late? Thank you!!

If you poke your paper towel down through the holes a little bit you could just water the bottom tray and it could soak up what it needs so you don’t have to water it

Once we cut the harvest is there any possibility for the pea to re-grow again?

Yes, it can regrow, but the shoots are less tender. Certainly a third cut will be too tough.

@FknNefFy

Hmmm.I think I like the colander idea because that way you can just pull it out of the holes and use the whole sheet where is the paper towel gets stuck around the roots and you have to cut half of it off

My first attempt resulted in a lot of fungus growing on my peas during the germination phase. I've removed the impacted peas, those immediately surrounding them, and have been spraying down the remaining peas with fresh water and switching out the water in the bottom tray just as often. Currently on day 5 and hoping that the fungus doesn't come back.

You can always add a few drops of vinegar to the water you use to rinse the sprouts. This will protect against fungus - but do make sure it is fungus, as the roots can produce the tiniest shoots that look like fungus but aren't! A sniff test will help!
