I feel the same. I find I understand and learn more about them when growing from a baby plant, than a large plant to begin with. My success rate is definitely higher with smaller plants. 😅

Baby plants!! They'll grow in no time at all. 1. You gain tons of insight into their humidity/water/light/fertilizing/seasonal requirements 2. You can better observe their growth over time 3. It's much easier on the wallet!! ( Plus, if they do poorly, it's psychologically easier to let go of a smaller plant)

i bought my first pothos 27 years a go. It became a luscious plant. I put in on my back patio and my toddling grandson stumbled and sat right in the middle squishing it. With that mother plant I retrieved the beginning of 27 years of babies from her. I have even incorporated other plants with her babies. I get asked why I have so many pothos. Well they remind of a wonderful young toddler 27 years ago.

Amazing! I can't wait for all my plants to grow. I just started my plant journey in June of 2020 all thanks to COVID and working from home. lol I'm the same way! I used to have plants sparingly in the pass years, but they've all died. In the last 7 months I've collected 11 plants and did thorough research on proper care. My collection includes a calathea medallion. My calathea has sprouted 3 new leaves since I've got her 😀. Be also, I can't BUY anymore plants. So I been getting free cuttings from friends and coworkers.

Thanks Christian! So glad you mentioned the time factor. I watch alot of You Tuber that feel after 6mths/1 year their babies should have tripled in size. Also since we don't live in a jungle (most of us) , you can't recreate all the conditions of the tropical plant's habitat . Some plants are jus more adaptable than others. I tend to buy larger plants.. after a certain age you lose your patience! Love watching you !!

Love watching small plants grow into beautiful full plants. My Hoya Carnosa green is more than 10yrs old, I will have to cut it out of the basket its in, I've only repotted it twice. Its so big now I put it on a trellis and a moss pole.

@Crazy Plant Guy Beautiful to see your plants grow. I have one thing that I learned that KZfaqrs say that is not true. When you say 100% dry you don't mean 100% dry. I used to only have cactus so to me 100% dry is when the dirt cracks. I underwatered so many plants until my sister said to me that it was crazy to water them so little 😅. Once I learned that, my plants have all made it now. It has been a learning curb for me.
@CrazyPlantGuy
@CrazyPlantGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Good learning and thanks for ageing. I guess it depends on how you determine 100% dry, for me it’s when the soil is lose and easy to move around + pot is light. but I can see how others can make the mistake of underwatering...but this gave me an idea for a future video for newbies. Thanks 😊
@gabrielatorres8003
@gabrielatorres8003 3 жыл бұрын
Awww, thank you Christian. I am excited and look forward to seeing that video. I still struggle to really gage how much water is just right. I know different plants like different amounts, and of course the amount of sun they get also impacts that, but it does seem like a guessing game sometimes.
@cricketjem119
@cricketjem119 3 жыл бұрын
@@gabrielatorres8003 I am a newbie but found moisture metre most helpful. I couldn’t tell when to water sometimes if I just stick my finger in the soil for plants that may be sensitive or tricky to water (pot very big, cactus that doesn’t have enough room in pot to check without getting pricked, Calatheas or plants that only like to be slightly dry). I highly recommend using moisture metre (pretty affordable on Amazon). It has been a Plant lifesaver for me and I have been preaching this tip (credit Kaylee Ellen): water when level is near 3 (or partially dry, based on metre), for many of my plants that don’t like to fully dry out and some that like evenly moist soil (Calatheas, Philodendrons, Anthuriums). Cacti and succulents have to be fully dry though of course. I have those plants growing new leaves and at least not dying when I changed my watering based on that rule (usually still about once a week but I check first; sometimes it is longer though and if that happens I try to give it more light and/ or put it on heat mat to help soil dry. I use grow lights as well during winter to allow plants to continue growing). Also for sensitive plants like Calathea that don’t like soggy soil but want evenly moist soil all the time, they require less water each time (I check water metre so it doesn’t get to the High Wet level; I water more frequently like every few days or so in those cases; this was an epiphany moment for me as I previously struggled with Calatheas; now they are all regularly growing leaves). Christian has great tips of course on checking soil with your finger but I am afraid I am not good at that method.

About rubber plants, the burgundy one and/or Robusta....I leave mine on the deck in full sun all day almost from when Spring first arrives until early Fall. It will do much better and you can water it daily. Mine was in a 10” pot and is now in a 22” pot. I promised I would not move it to a larger pot as I have to control its growth. Mine to 8’ tall from about 2’ in about a year and a half. I love it! And it’s leaves are so large too! I have been doing this every time the warm season comes( I live in PA) and fertilize lightly with fish fertilizer when I remember. It is so hardy and full sun will definitely make it grow so fast and so large.

When attaching your pothos to a moss pole, do you recommend wrapping the vines around the pole or tying the vines straight up the pole? Thanks!

Getting a medium tineke tomorrow for around 14 dollars from a seller on facebook. I'm so nervous but what a steal if it ends up being a good plant 💖 (btw i live in a tropical country)

It is so interesting- my hubby and I were at a plant store a couple weeks ago, and saw the Neon Pathos and really loved it and my hubby pointed out to me that it was a crazy out of control plant in certain places of our property in the Florida.- I had know idea what I HAD oh well lol ... i just am starting to get into houseplants and succulents since I moved to Oregon a couple years ago.

It’s crazy to see how the Pothos can grow pretty wild in certain places. I saw a golden one in Tulum just casually climbing up a tree and it’s so beautiful. 🤩
