@@mindfk394k Late, but excepting deletions it doesn't look as if you've received an answer yet. Soak tobacco (original commenter was referring to stubs of cigars, but misspelled "butts") in water. Filter/strain the resulting "tea" and put it in a spray bottle and you have an effective poison for many insects, as well as people, so be careful, wear gloves, etc. Rinse your veggies!

Love this video. Watched it, grew some rustica in a bucket, fermented it in my pockets (no, seriously), rolled a few cigarillos and enjoyed the hell out of them. How do you ferment in your pocket?
@gunslingersymphony5015
@gunslingersymphony5015 Жыл бұрын
@Chris Z. Same theory as turning bananas brown for banana bread, or ripening fruit on the counter: I color cured the leaves until they were dried brown, then I brought them up to case, then I wrapped the cased leaves in moistened brown paper (cut up grocery bag), put that in a zipper bag within another zipper bag (mainly to protect it from my sweat), and carried it around in my pocket for a while. Since I took them out to rearrange and air out every day I was able to judge when the smell of ammonia was gone. Shortly after that I prepped it and smoked it. Edit: since my harvest this year won't be all rustica, and I'll have more than one plant, I plan to use s kiln for fermenting.

It's tough stuff - I've had some self-seeding too. I had a problem with hornworms as well, along with a different caterpillar that showed up this year and ate out the inside of the seed pods. Very strange. (I considered drying and smoking the hornworms... they'd probably work better than my poor attempts at cigar rolling.)

I was surprised how close you had them growing the garden. I'm sure you know what's best...I'm just surprised. I guess it depends on the variety, eh. Good on you. I just searched to see if I could grow it in zone 3 and I guess there are varieties that'll grow in even zone 2!!!! Time to make a cheap greenhouse and get some heat mats and lamps, too.

How funny to find this video. I have a pretty good size garden which provides about half the food we eat and I’ve never thought of tabaco. Mind I’m a smoker and my husband loves a good cigar here and there. Even more ironic I’m Cuba and growing up Im cuba the government send is kids to the fields to work for a months in what now I know where kind of concentration camps. I work three years in the tabaco fields and I pretty much know every step of if all the way to drying, cutting and rolling. My husband is going to have a good laugh when I tell him my next crop 😂

Do you think I could germinate it on wet paper towel like i do with most of my other plants? Also, could you grow it completely indoors since I live up north and want to start growing now? I live in NY.

Probably yes on the paper towels, but they are so tiny they're likely to die when you try to move them. Indoors, probably, but you'd need good, strong light.

Hi Dave, great video! What seeds would I plant if I want pipe tobacco, and after I grow my own tobacco as you have shown, how do I attain something which is like what most pipe tobacco companies throw on the market? Like different flavorings and such, are they added after growth?
@davidthegood
@davidthegood 6 жыл бұрын
Yes - that comes afterwards in the flavoring part. I haven't had much luck tracking down what they use, but I did put some pipe tobacco in my smoker and smoke it to get a "Latakia" flavor. It's really hard to get good data on traditional pipe tobacco methods.
