Use a modest camera strap with no bright colors. A strap with a big yellow "Nikon" draws attention.

I have found that they key to blending in, is to become one of the people that are there. If not able to do that, then my backup is I pretend to be a tourist, a protester, a news photographer, a model scout, a student photographer, an urban planner, a wedding planner scouting a location, a person that used to live in the area, getting exercise because my doctor told me...etc etc. If the person enquiring is actually enthusiastic and interested, I'll give them my business card.

You can also often use a long lens so you're further away and less likely to be noticed. The other possible advantages are nice blurred-out backgrounds and compression. Of course, you need good, fast autofocus. On the other hand, if you want to include context, you'll need good light and to go down a few stops.

Of course, a lot of people will opt for this for better separation. Only problem for me is that all that glass tends to make the camera heavier and harder to hold on the wrist constantly

@@SnapsBySamosh Oh, gosh, yes! I use a wrist strap all the time and wish I could be happy with my 27mm pancake lens.

This is one of the reasons I use a super zoom bridge camera. I can get someone from a block away and they don't even know I took their picture.

I've never been confronted in the 2 years I've been doing street photography but like you mentioned in your vid I'm discreet and if I'm close to someone and they notice I keep the camera held up and I'm looking into the distance, through them if you like, so it looks like I'm not snapping them. I do have business cards with my insta page, name and street photgrapher printed on them but have never needed to present one or de-escalate a situation. New to your channel and enjoying a binge watch 👍

Business cards are a great idea. Not only for de-escalation but also if you see other street photographers on your walk. Great idea and im glad you enjoy my work 😊

My first digital camera was a video camera. The inverted rotating screen allowed shooting at a 90° angle, this required some practice😅.The same is achieved more conveniently with a photo camera with such a display. For the more skilled, of course, you can always make the good old tube with a special mirror at an angle, inside. If you're lucky, you can even find a factory one.

Never really made proper use of a video camera, but I do think implementing the flip screen from video cameras to normal cameras was a game changer

I don’t if it’s because everyone in Florida without a criminal record can legally carry a concealed firearm without a license that people become a bit more cautious and polite with each other. Or living in central Florida the tourist capital of the world people just don’t care about photos being taken all over the place.
