@TheRebornPheonix This is true and I appreciate you pointing that out but there are ball pythons that can be jerks; however, they are generally easy going. I have to admit that it's been a while since I've seen this so I don't remember it all that well but it should be obvious that you'd have to relate any info to the particular snake you are keeping/going to keep. I have an Australian Water Python and she was really pissy when I got her but over time she grew to trust me, I had to move slow with her and often felt like a lion tamer but I eventually got her to calm down.

According to my parents, when I was 4 I took a snake right out of it's cage (it was my dad's friend's. Not the best supervision). I feel bad for the snake. Ball python, I believe. Another time I held a baby cornsnake, with permission, at a pet store. We weren't there for pets, we were there for dog food. I was listening and paying attention, so I don't think I stressed the snake out. I don't have a good memory of it. Another time, we had a reptile program at school one day. Only a few kids at a time watching it. I held a very large snake, pretty sure it was an albino Burmese python. No orange, just yellow and white. We had almost five other people? Four adults, two kids. Lots of supervision (people who have worked with these reptiles for a VERY long time. Professionals.) to make sure no incidents happen. So, I can't relate to your snake fear. But, I definitely don't expect to get a pet to snake until I'm out of the house. My family plans on getting a cat. I don't want to have both in case something happens. And I have school. I don't trust my parents with proper snake care, and they'll most likely be at work anyways. Just wanted to share this with someone :P

when i was first getting my GT python used to being handled i did it once a day, every day for around 15 minutes, usually at about 11am. she ended up comfortable (no longer striking at me) with being held after around 2 months. bare in mind she was an adult and it would be easier if you got one from a juvenile age. :)

I do not recommend handling them personally only to clean cages, more advanced species that can be stressed, my 2c

I'm not a gtp keeper but generally snake handling protocols are similar and are something like this start with short sessions and pay attention to it's behavior increasing handling based on how the individual responses are.

It helps to be predictable. Like, tend towards, or even schedule it on, always the same time of day, hold them for the same amount of time as always, show up the same number of times as you do every week, be consistent. Let them know when to expect it. This helps them get used to it way more than never being able to tell when or how often you’re coming. Then, eventually, slowly increase the times you show up, but make those predictable and timely, too. This actually applies to all animals, not just snakes. You need to let them get ready for you. Don’t just handle them randomly.

The older the age, the less chance you may have for taming them successfully, which is the unfortunate truth. The smaller they are, obviously handle them 10 minutes a day or sometime… I wouldn't say it's a completely lost cause the bigger they get, save any creature; just that they're going to tolerate a lot less time being bothered. But it has to be consistent. I'm beginning to see these sort of species, + others, as possibly unicorns or display animals only. 🤷‍♂️😭Definitely not animal ambassador material😂...Of course anything is possible. People get lucky all the time right👍😘

Depending on the breeder, locality, and personal temperament they can be very sweet animals. My Sorong is harmless during the day, wouldnt trust any GTP at night due to strong feeding response. Just practice common sense and they're very docile.

Emerald tree boas have horizontal lightning stripe on their backs, and green tree pythons have speckles of white on theirs.

I feel like the true Australian equivalent of a Ball python would probably be carpet pythons because they’re readily available and kind of cheap whereas over here green trees cost like $1000

They are gorgeous! Maybe talk to your mum about getting a more docile snake like a ball python. They can be just as stunning and you get to hold them whenever really!

Corn and milk snakes are good options too. After you become familiar with snakes, then maybe get a green tree python

If you’ve never owned a snake, then you should really start out with a Ball Python or a Cornsnake. Green Tree Pythons are typically for more experienced snake owners that know how to handle and care for them specifically. Ball pythons can also be incredibly cheap!

They said that they removed the foliage from the enclosure for the video, so that we could see them better. Typically they have some fake vines with leaves, hanging at the front, on either side, kind of like open curtains and then some kind of tropical substrate all across the bottom along with a water dish. They don’t use hides for the green tree pythons, that’s what the fake vines are for. They can hide behind them.
