How to hard wire a dash cam to a Fiat Ducato.

This video shows you how to hard wire a dash cam and how it is useful in parking mode to view the outside of your vehicle while wild camping. The camera I have used is the halo go from Road Angel but it will be similar for all dash cams.

Greetings from Finland and thanks for this video. I just changed my motorhome to a Sunlight T67 which is built on a Ducato about the same age. I got some tips on removing the covers etc. from you.

Thanks for posting this video Nick - it made installing a Road Angel Halo Drive so much easier. I installed it on a 2022 Twin Supreme SLB (Ducato) - with the blinds that close horizontally. As a tip for anyone else in this situation - you cannot fit it under the rear view mirror as the blinds will then not shut - so I installed it at the bottom of the windscreen in the driver's side corner. The fuse box is also a little different but I found a live fuse using your tip. Great video. Very clear.

Many thanks for the comments James and glad you found the video useful. With my blinds that come up from the bottom it wasn’t a problem putting the camera under the rear view mirror. Enjoy twin life 🤙

That looks a really neat install. I was looking at the BlackVue but the Halo is much cheaper and looks very similar. I’ve ordered my Adria with the Safety pack so I should be able to have the same set up. Having seen this I’ll go for the Halo now. Cheers.

Thanks Nick, I've just got a Garmin dashcam 47 and a Garmin constant power cable that plugs into the OBD2 port. Hopefully I can do a similar setup as you on my 2021 Fiat Ducato Avan Applause 500. (Unfortunately Adria stopped importing the Twin 500 into Australia 😞 that was the model we wanted, but the Applause 500 is also a nice campervan and has a separate shower & not a wet room which we didnt want) . cheers, Phil

Nice idea might have been easier to use the permanent live in the obd socket ..

Did you check the fuse tap was the right way around, if you meter the socket with nothing in it obviously one side will be live and one won't, the side of the tap away from the wire need to be on the live side of the socket to ensure the fuse is protecting your camera

All the fuses are on the +ve side of of a 12v -ve earthed system. They're piggy-backed. Your comment makes no sense. Thank you to Nick for the video though!

@@johnmaclean7029 my ducato has three rows of fuses some are +VE to the bottom pin some to the top not taking this into account means the device will work but have no fuse protecting it

Great video, planning on doing this on my Boxer on Saturday morning - I don't need it to stay on when the ignition is off, so thinking passenger window fuse - would the camera power off once the window switches power off in that case? (they keep working a few minutes after ignition is switched off)

Hi Nick. Very useful video on fitting a dashcam, thanks. I've no experience of dash cams, so thought I'd just go with the one you installed. On looking, however, I see there's more than one model. Did yours come with an SD card? What size?

Thanks for the comments Sandie. I put a sandisk 64GB which works well. Mine was the basic model which is ok but you can get them from Road Angel with a higher resolution.

Did u check any of the empty fuse spaces ? when fitting my cam I was able to use one of the empty spaces - so no need for the piggy back arrangement

hi! Great vid. are you sure that negative is actually a negative just below the fuse board? I'm not sure it is.

Hi Connor, thanks for the comments. I don’t think the camera would work if it wasn’t Conner. That metal bracket from memory will connect to the chassis. If you have a different thought or experience please let me know.

Hi Nick, thinking of getting one of these. Can you close you blind with it stuck to the screen still ?

Yes I can on my van which has the one blind that pulls up from the bottom of the screen. I’m not sure about the ones that pull from the sides though but would have thought there would be enough clearance.

Yes I have but unfortunately didn’t get the footage to make the video. I got one to fit a golf the replaces one of the number plate lights. Just a case of running the wires to the front of the van.

@@BOOMEL12 sorry I thought you meant on my T5 that I did a video on. I’ve not installed a rear camera on the Ducato as it had one already on it. Depending the year of the Ducato sometimes the wires are already there. You would have to take the high level brake light off to have a look. If the wires are there then you can by a new brake light with the camera in it and replace your existing brake light. Fingers crossed 🤞 the wires are already there. That’s if it’s a van of course. I’m not so sure on a coach built motorhome!
